Say you are one of these companies that has done lot of illegal stuff in Canada. "ALMOST" no one can touch you. Rx&D as we see can and is only willing to give you token fine but protect you from the federal law which still can be used against you under proper circumstances, thus you are "ALMOST" invincible. "Someone" has the "silver" bullet in form of documentation/hard evidence. At the same time you are organizing and updating your archives. Documents of "historic" nature and importance are of interest to you and the ones that someone holds happen to be just the right types you need and wont to complete your archives. What do you do? a) You take a chance that documents end up in someone else's possession or archive? b) You hope that "someone" keeps them and does nothing for whatever reason? c) You make an effort to purchase these "historic" documents to complete you archive? Which one will you choose?
Obviously the first 20 or so viewers are "regulars'. Let me ask you. Any of you with the corporation here on assignment to check things out and see what is going on? If so, will you make a choice as suggeted by OP? You must consider even remote possibility that this is serious and you may miss the opportunity to have these valuable documents safely in the vaults of your archive, if you make the wrong choice. With Vasella as an internationally known celebrity CEO, under investigation and possible punishement, would it not be better for Novartis Dorval to cover their tracks by making peace with those who have accumulated that incriminating evidence of misconduct over years. Perhaps a "purchase" at fair price of these documents strictly for historic value, may not be a bad idea. Once the whole thing hits that proverbial fan, we can be tempted to go to the authority with that evidence. They in turn may want to make themselves look useful in the light of the scandal (involving your Co worldwwide, which means here too) and do the necessary investigation etc which they norrmally do not do.
