hello, just had my final interview after 2 face to face with DM. My final interview was with the Regional Director. When I closed for the job he said the decision rested on the DM and that he would back up whatever the DM said.

So having said that I have two questions:

#1 If DM likes me does that mean I will most likely get the job?
#2 When you interview with RD are you usually the only candidate left?

    Thanks so much.

    1. The District Manager has little say in today's market. HR controls most of the hiring. District Managers today just babysit and approve expense reports.
    2. They usually find several candidates for the RD to interview. Again, its HR that controls most of the hiring.

    Anyway...
Why are you concerned about something you can't control?
Who really cares who decides what?

If you get it, you get it. I hope you do!

    Good luck!

This is not always true. The HR department helps with screening issues but do not figure into the hiring decion (at least not in the company I worked for for years). There are usually a couple of final candidates but you could also be the only one. Take the interview seriously, take your time answering, and be as complete as possible. As a former RD, I approved 80%+ of the final candidates and only rejected if the DM did not resolve any "red flags" that surfaced during the interview. Once in a while, an issue surfaced that I discovered when talking with the candidate and when questioned in depth, the answers were evasive. You should do fine.

What advice are you looking for?
What do you do now to help influence their decision to pick you?
    How to negotiate salary?
Whether or not to present a business plan?
I would have addressed all of these issues in the f2f.

Total BS! HR has nothing to do with filed based hires especially sales rep jobs. Where they heck to you work where HR is making the call?

    TODAY, HR has more influence.
    You cannot deny that.

Most Fortune 500 companies are giving HR the most power in the hiring decisions. Why do you think they request your gender and race and veteran status? What does that have to do with sales.

In all honesty, I feel sorry for those of you in the corporate game. Especially the managers. You people are living in pain, I know. You have little influence over the hiring. You are treated like crap for the most part, and you are not appreciated.

Best think I ever did was go to a private company. I would highly recommend it. We tend to hire based on talent, not profiles.

Sorry but as a hiring manager in Pharma HR has zero input on sales jobs. I have no idea what their influence is for in house jobs but the only thing they do for us is the side by side comp comparison, offer letter and background check(which is actually outsourced). From a candidate screening they do very little as the three companies I have been at as a manager they use jobvite or something like it. I see all who applied, I have the interaction with the recruiter and the only time I have to send a rep to an area or above is if I think it could help close a good candidate to join the company. You people must work or have worked for the crappiest companies out there. Jeez!

They only place I could remotely see HR having more influence in the hiring of Pharma reps is in primary care/entry level jobs. Past that it's about experice, who you know/who referred you and the relationships/access you have to key customers.

We are talking about pharmaceuticals, man.

Its arguably the strangest industry going, apart from the oil industry and the media.

    Financial services up there too.
But, pharmaceuticals gets the cake, kool aid drinking and all. I mean, the HR departments at pharmaceuticals are in a class by themselves, mind control at its finest!
