Older and wiser??? You are kidding, right? Advanced, deeper thinking??? What a joke.

Those that run the business call the shots. That is the way it works. The key is to "influence", in order to make change happen.

Satisfaction comes from doing a job well and the attitude you choose to take.

Your posts demonstrate little ability to do much of anything.

This is a reply to the 55 plus female, i too am in the same age bracket and female. I got in the industry in the early 80's and loved it, needless to say it has changed.
I am holding on for dear life, and will till I drop over dead like the post said.
It is a shame the industry has been raped and pillaged over the years. The industry has made a shambles out of a perfectly great job and turned it into a CYA job. The companies are forever trying to justify someones position by requiring endless amounts of paperwork, lists, more and more extra work that requires you to use all your free time. If you ask your DM when you are supposed to do all the extra crap they want you to do, they say do it at night or on the weekends. The attitude is if you don't like it, leave. They place no value on the person, you are just a body in a suit, and they can replace you anytime they feel like it. If you are over 45, keeping your mouth shut is the way you keep your job.
I have the highest sales in the district and the top 5 in the region, but the company would replace me in a heartbeat and think nothing of it.
I am hanging in there, but not sure how long I can take this game.

Hang in there and HOPE to be downsized. At least you will have a good severance.

CYA jobs are everywhere in corporate America, so you have to know that going in, and manage it properly.

Since you have so much time invested, and your customers must like you, then let things go in one ear and out the other.

  5. I am under 40, but dislike my current job. I am going into sales, not with the idea, of loving what I do, but with the idea of learning a new skill set and making more money.

Almost all jobs suck. I realize that because I see most of the people I work with being miserable. My parents seem pretty unsatisfied with their careers and they both make over six figures. I am going to become a pharma sales rep to do something different.

So I think people should stop complaining. Most people will not be satisfied from a career. That isn't what work is about. I never understood why people ever brought into the lie of "The American Dream" anyway. All of that crap is a facade to cover up the harsh realities of life.

Hell, I see high school dropouts living in trailer parks and working at Walmart happier than college educated folks working at corporate jobs. Stop the bitching and take action. No one cares about your struggle except for you. If you are miserable, leave! There are plenty of people like me waiting to take your spot. Freaking grumpy people feeling sorry for themselves are the worst.

Geez, where do you work, the graveyard?

Most people are actually not miserable in their jobs.

Corporate jobs are usually OK. But, people are changing today. People are more self centered and will stab you in the back all day. Wasn't like that 20 years ago. At least, not as much as today.
