I am interviewing with Patterson Dental next week for the Territory Rep position.

    1. Could someone please let me know what the standard, annual vacation package is for a new hires?

    2. Is it possible to negotiate additional vacation?

    3. Also, what is the starting salary for the first year; is it negotiable?

    4. Could an existing rep let me know if there is anything I should negotiate, if I am offered a position?

    5. Could a new hire, give me an idea of some interview questions that will be asked in our 90 minute interview so that I might prepare for it.

    Thank you for your time,

    ;-)

    1. When I worked at Pattson there was no vacation time. Meaning you would take what you wanted. The theory was that you were being prepped to being off the base "W-2" plan and being your own boss on the growth "1099" plan.

    2. Nothing to negotiate. If you are hitting your numbers, no one cares.

    3. I made in the 60's but YMMV (Your Miles May Vary)

    4. Negotiate what accounts you get so you don't have a 100% scratch territory or forget it. It will be very hard to make it with 100% scratch.

    5. Every manager is going to interview differently. If you have passed Valtera and are meeting the branch manager, they are pretty positive about you. I would have good questions for them though. Ask about REALISTIC first couple years income. What is the absolute longest you can be on base plan? What is their system or plan for dividing up buying accounts of reps wo leave? Do the rich get richer (ie, do senior reps just get given more?)

They don't really like the base salary plan and I've heard there have been some changes made. In fact a guy during training that came in to speak to us at Patterson Corporate referred to it as the Patterson "Welfare" plan.

The above is all correct and good advice. You get as much, or as little, vacation time as you like however if you don't put up some numbers and show consistent growth you, will have LOTS of vacation time if you get my drift. Additionally, if I was a hiring manager and a prospective employee was focused on vacation time and trying to negotiate the amount, I would probably move forward with other candidates.

If you want 2+ weeks of vacation time every year, this isn't the job for you. I suggest you read the other long threads in this forum. This is a VERY hard job to succeed and make money in long term. You are set up for failure from the beginning with a shitty list of "accounts".

Yeah, don't do this job. Go to pharma, it's much easier.

If I ask really nicely do you think they will give me 3 weeks vacation AND a dedicated place to breast feed my newborn twins ?

I'm sure the branch will love me bringing in the little darlings every day.

I heard Patt is a progressive company.

If you are applying for sales then you shouldn't be in the branch everyday. You should only be in the branch for meetings and maybe pick or drop something or to show a doctor equipment.

Thank you for your response. That is good information.

Looks like I will be able to spend more time with the kids than I though on this job.

Thank You for hiring me Patterson !

I feel so inspired and empowered since I got this job with Patterson. Boy that test was easy. If you can't do well on it, you must be a real nit wit.

Well, I think I'll take the kids to the park and get a little sun this afternoon.

Boy, this dental is some easy business. Like being paid to flunk 4th grade.

'Training' at home, have years of dental experience but thanks for the liar label.

ps: We all know from your post you are a terrible speller and cannot construct a complete sentence and sound like a very bitter person.

We all feel sorry for you.

Cut the crap, there is no home study.

Those are not spelling errors, they are typos from this damn iPad. Dumb auto correct and virtual keyboard on this thing. I try to type too fast and the above is the result.

The sentence should read: "We all know from you're lying because if you were a new hire, you would be living at the branch for a few months to train."

We are embarrassed you are trying to lie to us and we all know the drill.

Try Dumb operator. Just closed 2 rooms of equipment while feeding the kids, since the territory 'salesman' was too weak to do it himself.

Is the drill the thing the doctor grinds with ?

You really have a way with words, don't you. You must be a great salesman.

If you finished high school and attended any college, it was a waste of time.

Get a tuition refund. Uh oh.

Smells funny, Gotta change diapers, or is that you I smell?

Slow down, try not to embarrass yourself again with a pithy response.

This doesn't even make sense. The OP said they were applying for a TR position then they say here that the TR 'salesman' couldn't close. Obviously this person doesn't know the Patterson structure and is just trolling.
