Future of Bystolic?!?!?!?!?!?

The heart failure indication is only part of the problem for Forest labs. A cinical trial lasting longer than 3 - 6 months needs to be conducted on a select patient population as opposed to mice and rats. Most of the clinical trials are too short to show the long term effects of this beta blocker. Toprol and Atenolol have withstood the test of time, that's why they are preferred by most cardiologists for effectiveness and long term safety. Bystolic the so called "Novel beta blocker" was cited by the FDA for making false comparisons, and stretching the unique pill mechanisms without any proof. Bystolic research is all over the place in regard to it's vasodilation effect. The proposed mechanism is the Nitric Oxide pathways, maybe Calcium Entry, perhap 5HT1, and the latest is a beta3 mechanism. If the mode of operation is not more definitive, and the pill's long term safety are being called in to question, How can we establish it's safety and long term effects? As both a beta in comparator trials, with the best beta blockers such as Toprol/Metoprolol and Coreg. Comparitor drugs such as Atenolol doesn't quite convince the public that Bystolic is a novel beta blocker. The citations by the FDA and the recent rejection for use in heart failureblocker user and a consumer, Bystolic will need to show more effectiveness and positive results does not convince me that this is the best beta blocker to be taking. Another problem I see with Bystolic is the one size fits all theory. 5mg. for almost everyone. Toprol effectiveness ranges from 25 mg to 400 mg. day and proven long term use > 10 years with great effectiveness and proven benefits for MI and Heart failure. Bystolic has not shown any benefit in MI prevention or research studies have not been conducted as of yet, Why?? Compare it to Toprol in a 5 year study on MI patients, and a placebo study for 3 + years on Stroke and MI patients. Recently a less known beta blocker known as Betaxolol, proved better than Toprol in over 2,000 peri-operative patients for prevention of atrial fibrillation and MI. and it also proved to be equal in postive outcomes for 300 + patients with heart failure, in all parameters studied. And Betaxolol is by no means a new blockbuster drug. Where are the positive research studies for Bystolic?? In mice and rat carcinogen studies Bystolic caused an increase in Leydig Cell dysplasia and damage to sperm cells. I would definitely not take this drug if I planned to have children. Patients taking Bystolic longer than 1 year on numerous message boards have all seen an increase in side effects such as hair loss, increased cholesterol, increased glucose, increased liver enzymes, sexual dysfunction and terrible sleep patterns. These side effects are now also listed in the Patient information handouts. Is Bystolic the beta blocker with the least side effects?? If it were, regardless of the poor heart failure results or lack of or; (not researched in MI patients) more patients would be taking Bystolic anyway.

P.S. I'm sorry if this post took a more serious approach. For myself and others, As a beta blocker user our health and well being are at stake. I can see that many sales people on this board have a joking attitude and revert back to high school, but when your taking medications, you expect a knowlegeable and more mature attitude.

Hey buddy ever think your problems might from your atenolol use. It's not good for diabetics. Do some more research on atenolol before you blame bystolic.

Looking for a law firm willing to take a case against this company. My daughter was taking Bystolic for hypertension, and developed blind spots in her eye. She can no longer drive, and she can not do her job on a computer. This condition was directly attributed to the medication.

look up aspirin or vitamins and you will find similar reactions. ALL medications have risks, side effects, and potential benefits. ALL of them. Bystolic is a helluva drug. Compare the risks and benefits to other meds for hypertension, you'll find Bystolic stands up tall against them.

You've been in healthcare for 20 years, yet you can't know when to use a comma or period? You sound like someone trying to get rich quick.

Learn how to f***ing write a sentence!

It's unfortunate that those who posted had these side effects. There is no medication on the market that doesn't result in serious and rare side effects for some patients. However, if you do the research, nebivolol/Bystolic had been extensively studied and has a favorable safety profile compared to other antihypertensives. Go to druglib dot com to see the published trials. Nebivolol, unlike most medications, has been taken by patients all over the world for more than 20 years. I take it myself.

Bystolic has a bright future...we're out detailing it for everything from CHF to toenail fungus and everything in between! Told to tell the customer about lifesaving benefit even though it says plainly in the new circular that we've not proven this with this beta blocker! Nobody at Forest has ever paused to think about a real indication, just sell, we have no real dog in the hunt, we're just out for the kill!

Taking Bystolic lowered my pulse rate to 42-45. I developed pneumonia that required hospitalization. I am afraid this was potentially caused by the Bystolic. I switched doctors and I have now switched to a new medication.
