Why does quality control labwork suck?

QC is the bottom of the barrel for science workers. You work in QC for a year or two and then either go to grad school for a Masters, PhD, or MBA. Anyone that works in a QC lab after 30 years old is losing. Sure, there are QC jobs everywhere. But most of them are contract and pay $15 an hour with no benefits. The hours are long, the work is mind-numbing, and the chemicals are dangerous. Let's not forget the fact that you have to deal with all kinds of nonsense and contradictory rules regarding documentation. If you get failing results on a test, management looks at you like you have three heads. It is always the technician's fault unless management can see some other huge error. Then it is a systematic error. Training for a lab tech will consist of someone already working 12 hours a day showing you a book of 100 SOPs to read and spending 30 minutes a day of showing you actual lab work.
