HDL, BlueWave, Mallory and Johnson just failed to stop Aetna from suing them for $200 million!! The Govt. may be dumb and slow but not the private payers. I guess waiving co-pays eventually catches up to you. Hope they saved up all that money. Here's a link to the story:

The company name has changed, but everyone knows we have to (and still do) waive copays to stay in business. Remember what they told us on all those initial conf calls?? Then they listened to us on what would happen to the business if patients were billed. This could be the final collapse of this house of cards. There's just no way we can stay in business if patients get copay bills.

If we don’t waive copays anymore, we’ll have pissed off patients AND doctors, who are not exactly happy with our knock-off tests. Not really the best business model; but let’s milk it while we can. I keep getting asked why our plac test ranges are suddenly twice as high as they used to be and I’m running out of excuses. Maybe we should just drop the test instead of telling them that the cheap copycat test we’re now using is crap. I can’t keep track of all the knock-off tests on our report anymore, let alone where the test is even being performed.

And when will Boston and Singulex take the same heat. They both waive patient copays as well, but for some reason they appear to get away with it. Is Aetna going after them also?
