Well, the FDA took the old girl out behind the barn and put a bullet in her. I guess Mr Joharis knew what he was doing when he unloaded us onto Abbott. What's everybody's/anybody's thoughts?
I think it's unfortunate but given the weight of the evidence it was the right thing to do. It just goes to show you that manipulating blood chemistry does not necessarily translate into a positive m/m outcome. I do feel, however, that the combination should be studied in a higher risk patient population, like lipitor did with the MIRACL trial. There are at least 4 companies right now with patents of NA being used for things ranging from acne to cancer... so, there's interest in the compound. But this was disappointing and unfortunate for patients with heart disease.
