I just called Vanguard today and an agent said that they didn't offer the lump sum option to everybody. There was some criteria to select candidates. It was all to reduce some of the cost of maintaining the pension fund. I don't remember if I was ever selected. I might of mistakenly threw away any offer kit. I faintly remember getting some big thick envelope from Vanguard last year but probably never read it. I logged in today on the Vanguard site and found out the value of my pension fund is close to $36,000. The agent told me that I would get less than that if I took any lump sum offer. I would of probably taken it anyway. Now it's too late and just locked in there till I reach 65. It also says that starting at 65 I would get $220/month for life.

No you need to double down and put all your money on the Oakland Raiders to win the Super Bowl this year. This will make you a lot of money. Guaranteed.

Got a postcard that says it's coming. And I recall the 2012 offer they said it was a one time offer and it would never be offered again. (FAT LIE) Anybody save that letter from 2012? Because you will want to compare what they offered then to what they are offering now.

I was with Bayer Healthcare for 15 years my buyout is$27,800. Im in a tight spot thanks to Tyson Foods so I am taking the buyout. There are far worse companies out there Bayer always treated us fairly, I dont know about other divisions. It's sad that an american company (Tyson Foods) should take pointers from a German company.

$27,800 seems low for 15 years. Are you sure it's worth taking now? Did you model what that might amount to when you are ready to retire?
