Positive aspects of working for Medtronic? Serious answers only, please.

    What are some of the good aspects of working for Medtronic? I know I will get lots of snarky answers, but would really value a recent perspective. Thanks

    I'm a recent hire of three months and the benefits are slightly above average along with the professional work environment. So far so good so am enjoying my stay.

    My only concern is the company is too ingrossed with one piece lean manufacturing for every single solution. They can not remain competitive without some automation and batch processing. The Medical Device market is far behind all other industries as far as technologies but this will soon change either with Medtronic's lead or not.

    Pay is decent. Benefits are decent. Corporate culture is decent. Employment is generally stable, until its not (Medtronic often has RIFs).

    Pay, benefits and salary are above average along with a good professional work environment.

    I've been with other companies which had yearly RIF's as well. Sadly RIF's at MDT are a continuous concern.

    Benefits are some of the best. Pay is decent, they keep us in a pretty tight range in sales. Some years they miss the quota target and everyone has a shit year. If you are under performing, even if there are circumstances not in your control, you better have plan B and be ready to leave. They will cut you pretty quick, mgmt always looking for a scape goat.

    I love all of you MDT people... Ooooh, it's so great here... pay is good, culture is good, MDT is awesome. Ohhh, but the regularly scheduled layoffs suck.

    Keep drinking the Kool Aid.

    The legacy Covidien divisions are run by a bunch of buffoons. Stay away.

    look at Medtronic's competitors and tell me how many reps have a tenure of 15-20 years. People stay because it's a good company. I've been with MDT for 14 years, my team rep has been here 31 years and all of our CS's have been here at least 10 years to the longest 20 years.

    That's why there is no room to grow. It's a good ole' boys club. The guys at the top use their team to make more and more money for them. Hire the CS to get the business you need and then use their connections to grow your business and they make a nothing close to the old folks club. Good luck here. It's no wonder they don't leave and have been there forever, they're milking it and couldn't go out on their own and have little to no work to actually do other than make withdrawals at the bank since their minions are doing all the work.

    That's a pretty broad question. Each MDT division is very different. If you want more detailed info, you should mention the division you are interested in. You'll still get douchy comments but perhaps a few less... :)

    Honestly? Even though Medtronic moves VERY slowly in the marketplace and typically gets behind the competition, then after quarters (if not years) of treading water comes out with something amazing to catch back up, they are a fantastic company overall.

    Benefits:
    1) Tons of different divisions/roles for upward mobility or just a change of scenery if you get bored
    2) Good benefits and good 401k matching plus a pension plan (getting more and more rare these days)
    3) Name recognition when you walk into an office - instant rapport typically
    4) A "too big to fail" company that will either find a way to compete through innovation or buy innovation from another company to stay on track

    Whatever Omar and his team decide to off-load it will be best for the company. Medtronic didn't buy Covidien for me-too type products and they are exactly what are being offloaded. If divisions need to combine then so be it.

    The business is changing and in order to stay ahead with payors and the necessity to provide a value added business, being in the business of highly commoditized products doesn't do anything for your business.

    If you want to sell products like this then head over to Cardinal. I'm sure they'd love to have you.

    Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) eases 1% after hours on average volume in response to its voluntary recall of 2,622 StrataMR valves and shunts that were manufactured between October 27, 2015 and November 11, 2016. The company took action due to an increase in the product complaint rate which was 2.75% of the total units distributed. The devices are used in the management of hydrocephalus (water on the brain).

    Positive aspects? IMO none at the moment. No leadership from the top! Leadership just cut budgets again (second time) for FY18. We currently have a hiring freeze for most positions. A RIF is coming in 45-60 days. more to come

    Probably the leading medical devices employer for recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and promoting of women and minorities. Does anyone concur?
