I have an interview with them next week and can not find much info about them at all. They sell prescription vitamins and generic pain meds. I know they are a very new company and only three or four years old. Should I run away from something like this? I am a recent grad trying to break into the industry so your advice would be greatly appreciated.

You recently graduated, have no pharma (or sales?) experience, no job, and want to get your foot in the door, right?

Many jobs are starter jobs - very rare is the potential that your first and only job is going to be your dream job and you'll be there for the rest of your life.

And with no prior experience to offer a company, and the number of experienced and qualified reps already looking for positions, your chances of breaking into the biggest companies are even more limited.

Beggars can't be choosers - go to the interview, give it your best shot, and wait until they actually offer you the job before you start worrying about whether you should turn it down.

this is an AWFUL company...you will not make anything close to what they promise you...people try to use it as a stepping stone to other positions, but usually cant stay long enough because they cant pay their bills. Word is it wont be around too much longer...their products suck and no pipeline

I am going to assume that you worked for this company if you are saying they are AWFUL? Curious because I am currently looking into a job with them and it is a position that was recommended from a friend who has only positive things to say about the company.

Can you help clarify why you are calling them awful? And what expectations were you given that did not follow through?

I don't know about this company but I can say that I have tried to sell branded generics, even those that have some sort of novel delivery method and it was a pain in the ass.

    Why?
    Doctors laugh
Pharmacy switches. The pharmacies switch them or the patient won't pay for the difference
    Much higher copays
Efficacy differences? Mine didn't have any
Harder to get bonuses despite working your ass off
    Stocking issues
Company I worked with was not willing to invest in a formulary team to get them off of even NC (not covered)
Coupons are NEVER used, believe me!

If you get word from the company on how they plan on overcoming these issues, that is one thing, the flip side is you probably don't want to ask these questions during the job interview.

I work closely with Vertical as one their manufacturers it's a good company to work for. Dave Purdy for example is one of the most hardworking people I've ever worked with. Id rather work over there any day too bad I don't live on the East Coast. Its a legit company anyone who says otherwise is just an internet troll

Anyone wondering about Vertical- I have a few friends that have been at Vertical for years now and are very happy. They make great money and the company is growing while others sit by their phone waiting to find out if they made the cut…and if they do- they wait until the next wave of cuts roll around in the next month. I have heard that Vertical pays out great bonuses and treats their employees fair. Think about where you are coming for advice now- to a web forum where only idiots from old/big pharma come because they were making 90K a year never having to sell a thing because their products sold themselves, were covered tier 1, and had advertisements running at halftime of your football game. The other type- bitter reps that were let go by companies because they couldn’t sell a candy bar to a homeless person and blame the employer for their own incompetencies . You do the math.

You sound like an idiot. It's called sales- nothing is promised except a base salary. You probably promised that you could sell, you sucked and couldn't pay your bills. Go back to the cheesecake factory where you were you up-sold cheese cake.

This is an awful company to work for when it comes to their product line. They will change their products more than you change your underwear. Just as something gets traction- they will 'upgrade' it and come out with a similar name or scrap it all together. If they keep it..suddenly it goes generic and of course they keep ALL the revenue for your hard work. The formulary coverage in most areas is terrible. They enforce the 10 call a day average and scrutinize your paperwork to no end. The owners seem nice-but often their business decisions are questioned by all the reps. This is a great place for those that want to break into the business but seasoned reps will find it a joke. You can make great money if you find a territory that is a gold mine and happens to have minimal competitors and decent formulary coverage- but they tend to scew things to fit the needs of the northern reps-so that might be a good place to work for them. Otherwize-you'll be living on the measly salary they offer you with a little bit of commission. Many good reps have come and gone from this company. But as long as the owners are making money- they dont give a crap about the morale of the reps.
