Why is Xifaxan so expensive- any reason besides company greed?

Hillary is this you? Out of curiosity -Do you check for cash prices on all of your branded prescriptions? Curious as to why you would ask? And in most cases you have support available. Very few pay cash price - but that's not only X.

I know there is support to cover it but doctors seem disgusted that a company chargers over 2k for a one month supply (HE) & $1400 for 14 day IBS-D. I'm sure if the competitors plant the seed with the docs too. I do think it's ridiculously expensive & we would have better coverage if they would bring down the price to a typical $200-$500 a month therapy.

Sure.... so you wouldn't mind if your quota was 3x what it is now or if your salary is 1/3 it is now?
Myself - I would rather have all 3 stay the same. An HCP that gives you the cash price objection is just using a smokescreen - if they would write it correctly / process it directly most of their patients would never see the cash pay price anyway ...

Lol. Not at all. Capitalism all the way. I think we would sell more pills & make more money when pts don't have a $700 co-pay after the coupon or if they are on Medicare. I'm just not heartless ...

compassionate capitalism. Plus, our system is not truly capitalist. If it was, patients could buy their drugs from overseas which we sell at a greatly reduced rate. The USA subsidizes the r & d for the rest of the world. I am all about charging what the market can bear if all nations feel the same brunt.

Maybe that Adam smith guy was on to something.
