Ameritox is a joke..

Ameritox is a joke! I'm a 36 week pregnant woman and had the usual mandatory 35 week drug test and my urinalysis came back positive for etoh (alcohol). I can assure you I have not had a sip of alcohol for at least 11 months and only then had I had one drink at the beach! The results were only positive for yeast. Yeast is in everything from bread to our bodies! I am awaiting the next urinalysis to come back and if it is positive again, ameritox can be expecting a lawsuit because I will take a polygraph or blood test or anything else I have to take to prove I HAVE NOT consumed alcohol. You don't mess with a mother and her child! I am absolutely pissed. They're nothing but a bunch of educated idiots. Sorry I just had to vent, I've got enough stress with the birth of my baby in a few weeks and did not need this extra stress of a false accusation of drinking alcohol.

 

You realize that if a urine specimen contains yeast or some bacterial contamination, then fermentation can occur and ethanol can be produced, don't you? Ameritox is reporting that ethanol is present, they aren't saying how it got there.

 

Yes i do realize this, I currently have a Urinary tract infection and have had one for weeks and have also been on an antibiotic which causes yeast infections..either of those could have caused my urine to ferment if the proper preservatives weren't added. They are stating that I CONSUMED alcohol in my report, or at least that is what my doctor made it seem like. He asked me if I drank. That is why I'm pissed. If this next result comes back positive, Child Protective Services becomes involved for something I have NOT done. My child will be born in one week from Wednesday and I don't need the stress of having to deal with CPS, it'd be nice if I could just be happy and excited about the birth of my baby but instead I have to worry about CPS's involvement over someone else's mistake. If they can't test to see if someone actually CONSUMED alcohol, then they shouldn't have the test period. A woman and her child's life is too serious for some science that is not accurate.

 

So sorry to hear your story. Why would a doctor be testing a pregnant woman for pain drugs?

I would both call AND email the office and volunteer to go to the nearest walk-in lab (Quest or Labcorp) and ask to be tested by another method (breathalyzer, hair follicle, oral swab).

It might be a good idea to do a urine test too. A "false" positive in the urine and a negative test with the alternative method will corroborate your story and keep cps off your back.

 

Thank you, it's so stressful! And I guess it's mandatory where I live for doctors to test pregnant women for any and all types of drugs from prescription meds to street drugs and obviously alcohol too. It's a CPS thing I'm assuming but not too sure of the reason. If this one comes up positive that is what I plan on doing! I'm going to get an order from my doctor for a blood test and do whatever I have to. There has got to be better, more accurate ways to test for things. I appreciate your feedback! Seriously? Why would you drug test a pregnant woman? Do a google search for maternal addiction and watch in horror as stories and studies flood your computer. While I'm sure this particular patient is legit, there are dozens of others who put their babies at risk for countless health issues by using medications for pain, anxiety or addiction. Not to mention illicits. Any OB not testing their patients at least once during their pregnancy is acting irresponsibly.

 

I just established as a new patient at Dr's office and before I could get the meds that I've been on for 6 years, I had to do a urine drug test to make sure these meds were in my system. I am on disability for back issues and I took my medication the morning before my appointment. 2 xanax and 2 Norco. The test came back negative and now the doctor won't fill my medication. How does that happen and is this common with Ameritox?

 

I am sorry this has happened to you. It is nothing compared to what we black employees in Greensboro had to deal with. Some white dude who is the Sales VP stood up in front all the black employees and decided to use MLK words and said he has a dream. He don't even know what them words mean. Then he come back again about two weeks ago and says he got a dream again but he never once come out to Lab to even shake one black or white employee hand. He come and sit in the big glass conference room like he is better than we black people. Yes we know we black people pour samples all day. He don't even know one employee name in that Lab. Then the other white man who don't even bother introducing heself stands up and tells everybody we gonna get a 1.5% match. Guess what? We ain't even get that. White man just stand there lying like it just come so natural to he. This company got some unethical people working.

 

MLK also said he dreams of a world where his children will be judged by not the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Liberals have 101% screwed this up. Almost every policy is about skin color. How about we adopt policies that are color-blind and are based on merit and content of character? Can we agree on that? It'll never happen.
