Thanks for posting this - I loved it! The poster you responded to is unsophisticated & pompous. That individual is a complete hypocrite. Enjoys being part of a group that consistently degrades women but she is so concerned about someone who smoked pot 3 months ago.

Re-read your posts 20 times and then pick up the Wall Street Journal (I know you don't read stuff without big pictures)...

and you will begin to see how stupid you really are.

Do you know what the definition is pompous is? I've seen her posts and not the most recent ones but I've read ones in the past. She is pretentious and very righteous. If she utters an intelligent word EVER - I'll be surprised. When it was not allowed for the PG to have only registered posters she was so happy! As were other RPs. and a few stated how happy that anons couldn't post.

BTW, I'm NOT a PHARMA REP and never was. Nor was I device rep. however I've worked with a few of them. I argued with one awhile ago about the reptrac system (whatever its called). Although after a lengthy debate, actually liked the guy or gal.

She was also mean to me and called me names and not on this thread. I guess she likes to call a lot of people names. I never insulted her - I was just honest in my views. Just b/c someone knows about past RPs avatar names doesn't mean anything. I realize that most with my views post on another board. A fatal mistake I made.

LOLNo they won't, they will never see it. THere should be no shame in anyone working. There are too many people that could work but don't and then expect us to take care of them.No one is a loser for working a job and providing for their family. Just because you wanted to be a device rep doesn't mean that the rest of us should do that.

So, what do you say to someone who applies for work and get interviews, is ambitious, has a great resume, is confident, is tough, is a winner, has recommendations, and still does NOT get the job?

It has happened to me over and over. I am not complaining about it, but that is the reality of the economy we are now in.

The future absolutely stinks right now. Hopefully that will change. But, for now, these high end jobs are going to people who have contacts within, not people that are the best candidates.

    That is the truth.

This world is just a joke anyway. We are called to walk with confidence and have faith, not confidence in ourselves...

and I see so many sales reps that have high end jobs that are good at what they do, but they fail to see that they had a lot of breaks along the way (and yes, we do create these breaks, but there is also luck involved)...

but they give themselves all the credit for their success and don't even see the poor sap that is a hard worker and does all the right things, only to have a mean spirited manager stab them in the back or get downsized or get rejected for a job they are over qualified for.

Count your blessings, is what I am trying to get across, and I really can't stand sales people that have high paying jobs and never been downized and continually make good money with little adversity from within their company, and knock others that have been as blessed.

    Just my 2 cents.

Last part I meant, have NOT been as blessed.

As for pharma, I say get out now while you can! It is an industry left over for political types, and an industry where true sales ability is not valued.

Ok, so "majority" is probably wrong but hair testing is gaining ground pretty damn fast especially with any company where the employee is required to drive or operate machinery. I personally think it is a good idea. It pisses me off that some drunk and high slob can keep a job while a truly good potential employee is out of work. Happened to my husband. He was always on time, worked hard while the other guy called in "sick" every Monday and yet come layoffs, they kept the drunk. (The guy was so wasted ALL the time that he usually did not even sober up until around Noon everyday.)

So now we are getting to the heart of the matter and why you have a hard on for hair testing. You feel that if your husband's company had tested hair then they would have cut loose his partner come layoff time and not him but your logic is flawed. The fact is that if they had tested your husband's partner then maybe they would have let him go but you say he was a drunk and drinking is not illegal off the clock. Its not possible to test hair and determine which days you might have been zombie drunk so he could always say he parties on weekends. The other MAJOR flaw is that if they had replaced your husband's co-worker with someone else then they still may have let your husband go in the layoff. IT wouldn't have mattered if your husband was 10 times the worker that the other rep was because in a layoff PERFORMANCE is NO guarantee of job security. The better reps are often let go and the lesser ones are kept.

Yes and no. My husband found a better job and, yes, they can tell how often you drink and if your alcohol consumption is above average. I hate the thought of so many drunk and high dipshits working and screwing up while truly good workers go unemployed. The urine test can be beat and if employers really want to know if they have a problem worker, they need to do hair testing. However, you are right that companies are so cheap and stupid today they usually do let go the really good (usually higher paid) workers and keep the ones that are shit. Ah, the American product - never been better (NOT)!

The American way is whine, whine... News flash your husband probably lost his job because he was less qualified, no one liked him, or he wasn't a good employee. He's most likely too ashamed to tell you this... The economy has historically gone through periods of decline, so tell your husband to get up off his ass and stop wasting his time thinking about who deserved the job more and spend more time getting a new job.

you can buy fake urine online that comes with a heating pad, it's compact and easy to use. i don't even know why companies waste money in drug testing when there's ways around it

Patheon now Thermal Fisher did a hair test pre-employment on me. Since I am a girl with very long hair (by average hair growth roughly three years of hair) and I made some trips to the legal states on my vacations, I failed. So maybe try some cleansing shampoos and definitely get a trim.
