I apologize. I was the author of that long-winded post. I have been away from C-P board for a long time.

The point of my post was not to troll for reps or biz. I now have 2 sub reps who worked for these outfits ( like the post above.."highest commissions in the industry" ). Whenever you hear this..it's just another company who wants your business and keeps the rewards. My sub-reps supply their own equipment. I arranged pricing that most DME suppliers can't touch. These outfits make $ even on the wholesale cost of the braces. You get your comm sheet and see a $200 deduction for the LSO...the LSO they bought for $90. They made $110 before you saw $1 in profits. My reps buy their own and keep the WHOLE markup. My reps keep a MINIMUM of 50% of what the insurance company reimburses. Where they used to get $175 after the inflated costs..now they keep $375 or more. So if the company isn't netting you 50% or more...the deal isn't anything better than average.

For the cut I keep, my reps get use of my license where needed. Insurance authorization where needed. Collections. Paperwork checks and any follow-ups. They get benefit of the many hours I spent getting insurance networks. They get billing services. I keep you legal and compliant. These TENS outfits paying the big $ are all scams. They play with the coding to inflate the payout. DME MUST be delivered ready to use and all setup and instruction must be included. It is all 1099.

So back to the post...you will rarely make the good $ if you work for someone else. You will never make the good $ getting 20,30, even 40%. I keep 75-80% of every dollar that comes in. Subtract costs and I net more than most DME guys gross.

As for getting pass-throughs to handle your business...get creative. There are a lot of them. Start with an existing DME supplier who is in your region, but you will not be competing with. Soif you are in South Texas...talk to an accredited DME supplier in North Texas and ask if they will let you sub-rep for them, and then negotiate a fee for their billing services and use of their insurance network. While you will be (technically) and employee..you are actually a 1099 subcontractor. They keep a % for doing the insurance work and billing, and maybe supplying equipment if you like the pricing. Talk to Orthotic and Prosthetic shops. these are guys who do a lot of custom work..and they have good insurance nets because they are also direct providers. Ask them if they would handle your biz for a cut. Once you get one...the others come easier.

    Re: Money in bracing 1099

I left a W2 position and went independent. MedCepts introduced me to a distributor that would treat me fairly with commissions! Once I got established I was able to add more products to my bag and MedCepts had some great products to choose from.

apply for your DME license early so you can bill out. It usually take 6-9 months and about 2-3k to get it but once you have it you can really make some money

Yeah, I found the same great results at MedCepts but not in braces. I needed diagnostic products. I got my best leads for additional products to add to my bag from medcepts! Medcepts helped me get some products with 40-50% commissions. I had a company that wanted to pay me 10% commission and I sent them to Medcepts for an education. They learned alot because them came back and offered me 35%.

If you still hit quota and still get your commissions decreased along with your territory the OR implant sells rep job is for you. Totally lost its magic now days! 1 million dollar territory is it and you get to pay for your own sales associate. what a loser deal for real sales people.
