Don’t forget if you land some where you must report and severance is withdrawn if you don’t that’s fraud and they do check. I was dinged at J&J and it cost me my house.

You are so full of shit. If you lost your house over that, than you are dumber than shit. And there is no way for them to find out nor is it against the law.

Hello Chump, once you get your next sample dropper job and if your still collecting then you must notify Sanofi. Also you can not collect unemployment while on severance. Other than that your good to drop samples again, Chump

This is BS. The severance package says that you must conceal any info and not sue them in order to receive the severance. You would be free to sue them and they don't want that. They treat employees like crap!

This is ALL bad info. I don't why someone would do that to people that are already suffering. I was part of a layoff in 2014. I received 9 months of severance. I got a new (better) job in fours months. I called HR and let them know that I no longer wanted the health insurance since I had found a new position. The HR representative congratulated me on the new job, cancelled my health insurance and my severance payments went up without those deductions.

I also collected unemployment (this may vary by state). In my state, if you must sign a release to collect your severance you are allowed to collect unemployment. There were some hoops to jump through like interviewing skill classes (btw don't smoke in the interview) but it was legal.

    Be nice people!

In some states like Michigan, you cannot collect unemployment if you are receiving a severance. If you start a new job you must report it to the previous company. Best to check with your state and make sure you are in compliance because it may come back to bite you.

If your severance check is late from sanofi like mine was when I was laid off last year, there is a loop hole that you can begin colllecting unemployment and severance simultaneously in some states. You have to get approval from the unemployment office yoga re filing with but they approved mine in a day.

i looked through sample severance agreement. Did not see where it said we were not eligible for severance if we went to work for another company. Can anyone clarify and note where this was stated?

Severance is a voluntary benefit provided by the previous employer (they don't have to pay you a penny), while unemployment is a government benefit from public funds. It is illegal to collect unemployment compensation from the state if you are not really unemployed, but severance is a private contract between two parties. Unless the severance contract specifically says otherwise, if you are dinged it is your money to keep so long as you uphold your promises.

What was the last day of employment? During the layoffs last year my first severance check came a week after the normal pay period. There is a legal reviewe period to allow former employees time to rescind the agreement - this is the reason it takes an extra week for the first severance check to be paid. You don’t miss any pay it’s simple a week behind.

There are valid reasons the first severance check is paid a week (or more) behind. There is a legal requirement for the employer to allow the employee to rescind the severance agreement. Sanofi cannot legally process the severance agreement until they receive the signed agreement and wait through the legal holding period. Once the legal hold requirement is met Sanofi processes payroll request to Ceridian. If the timing of the payroll request is past the window for the pay cycle the employee’s first check is delayed.

Nobody is trying to delay your pay - it’s simply part of the process including legal requirements to insure the employee has the opportunity to rescind the severance agreement.

Employees who receive severance are very fortunate. Remember when the Quintiles CDEs we’re laid off? They received ZERO severance.

Try being appreciative for the severance...even if you have to wait a week or two.

Try to be appreciative they lost their job? How condescending. You have to be from corporate.

YES!!! Thank you for letting us go even though we were told "We are totally committed to the Inst/LTC teams. You have nothing to worry about." So many of us were loyal to a fault to this company so the least they could do is the RIGHT THING like the other companies our there do. How patronizing of you to remind us how we should be appreciative. You obviously don't understand nor do you care how tough the job market is out here.

People lose their job all the time. Many do not receive severance. Sanofi’s severance is very generous. I lost my job with Sanofi last year. Finding new employment while receiving severance was a financial windfall.

I understand quite well having lost my job last year. The job market is tough.
