Physio-Stim or Exogen 4000? Why?

Orthofix is the biggest perpetrator of billing fraud out there, and its comical to see their staff and management desperately lash out here when confronted with clinical evidence and data.

Acute fractures? Do you know a number of your reps have been arrested or otherwise fired, etc, recently? Because your reps are fraudulently changing doctor notes and billing for acute fractures. it is a culture in your company.
A rep in a certain area was recently blacklisted from a hospital system when they caught on to her acute fracture billing techniques, i.e., placing the unit in the patient's recovery room or attending the surgery so she can bill for acute fractures, revisions, bunionectomies, the list goes on. This was costing the hospital thousands of dollars per case and they are pursuing legal action.
I am pretty tempted to list her name- anyone want some initials?

Exactly! Loser culture that cheated and got caught. They know no other way and will be buried for it. Just watch the numbers continue to erode while they reward these losers with $. I hear they are giving big up fronts to Spine distributors to trade low margin metal for high margin Stimulator sales which will NEVER happen. A bunch of moronic cheaters who are getting their due in slow motion. Charge!!!!!

Orthofix isn't the only company doing shady things. I know other bone stims rep who are providing loaner units to Medicare patients who haven't met 90 days. When they get their 90 day xray, this one rep in particular has a form written up that states the patient has a non-union and asks the Dr. to sign it.

A surgeon just told me about this nonchalantly when I told him we had to wait another 32 days.

Just another reason why these devices should be made rental. If Medicare knew about the patients getting a free, "used" unit; they would not pay for a new one.

Ok here's the deal. Physio-Stim and Exogen both have the same efficacy rate. Exogen is more difficult in patients with splints and casts because of the mess it makes by cutting a hole and getting gel into an area which needs to be kept dry.
Physio-Slim is easier for elderly patients to use. Very difficult for an elderly patient to bend all the way to their ankles (for ankle and met fractures) or strap the device if they only have one good hand (a distal radius fx of the left hand)
The Exogen hip sling doesn't work unless the patient is laying flat and it still slips. Very difficult to treat the zone that needs treatment. With Orthofix the Physio-Stim will fully cover the zone that needs treatment. Shot in the Dark with that little Exogen transducer (why they didn't make the transducer larger is strange)

Physio-Stim gets the vote for Non-Union fractures. Very few surgeons will use Exogen for acute fxs of the Tibia and Distal Radius unless the fracture just requires closed reduction. Exogen does not have indications for acute metatarsals, yet that is where the majority of reps market it.

Hands down. Physio-Stim by the "New and Improved, Compliant- Orthofix"

I would like to know area of country where a rep was thrown out of a hospital for placing unit - reps have been doing this for years and have not been instructed to stop.

Exogen Rep or Orthofix? Medicare Patient ( partA) or Commercial?

True. And reps go around selling it for fresh fractures that are going to heal at 86% anyway, with it without a bone stim. Try using that little transducer on tough non-unions.

Yes I hear the same thing from doctors in my territory. "Your competitor has a trunk full of loaners she puts on my patients until they meet guidelines." I'd like to know if this is this a new program offered by DJ or is the rep acting on her own?

No one is allowed to do that- turn them in to the DOJ and you might be eligible for a payout if the company is fined!
If they are giving out loaners they are getting a 90-day note later after the patient has already started therapy, with a post dated rx and probably a forged or doctored note.

For anyone willing to help, please constructive feedback only.

I am currently interviewing for 2 positions, one with Exogen and one with a spine stimulation company. Please, any feedback would be helpful. I have spend 8+ years in total joints for Biomet and now looking to transition. I will be working in the greater Detroit, MI area?

Ok. Here is the truth. Go with the spine position. Work there 1 year and then go to a OR based spine sales position. In the long run you'll be happier. When you go to a spine position you will set yourself up for a career. If you simply go to a bone stimulator company you will box yourself into a corner.
As for which product works better, it's no contest. The exogen device works better. Most of the studies for both companies are a bunch of BS. You can't look at post marketing data. As for transducer mess, a salesman's attempt to muddy the waters. One can't claim results in 3 hours when a device was used for 8-24 hours to get desired results. But I digress. Go for the spine position. That's what I did and I'm happier for it.

Neither, you'll be able to get them at the drug store within six months for about fifty bucks, made in China

As a patient of 17 surgeries of a right arm elbow/ulnar/radius nonunion fusion, we were on the road to amputation when I was able to finally convince my ortho surgeon to order a bone stimulator (he didn’t believe in them). Prescribed OrthoFix, because of a long arm cast, I wore my stimulator 9-12 hours a day for 63 day when we finally saw that my nonunion was bridging. (became a believer) As for “Do you really think your patients are sleeping with the unit on every night for 3-6 months” YES THEY WILL. When the other option is amputation.

They will also wear it during the day for 9-12 hours.

The cynicism regarding patients not being compliant with their care taints their overall success. Instead of coming up with ways to foster success, the patient receives one and done care/instructions on a system completely foreign to traditional health care methods. There is poor communication with information regarding the appliance. Once the doctor prescribes the stimulator, and then representative “fits” it to the patient there is no back up care and it falls solely onto the patient to navigate this healing.

These stimulators are EXPENSIVE! Resources for questions are limited and many folks do not know how to advocate for themselves with questions and insecurities. The least the representative could do is make a bimonthly call to the patient with answers and encouragement.

I LOVED my OrthoFix. Unfortunately I had to switch surgeons due to mine retiring. And after a year free of surgeries my arm broke again.

I finally convinced my new surgeon to order me a bone stimulator after 4 months of nonunion and he ordered me Exogen. I’ve been in treatment for 45 days and do not know at this time how this method compares to OrthoFix.

What I do know is that OrthoFix is more streamlined. While it takes longer for me to wear it, the Exogen is just a mess with needing the Ultrasound gel not to mention the battery charge doesn’t last long and is not as portable as the OrthoFix.
