Im in a double layer territory with a 50/50 shot of losing a great job. My future is uncertain. I am torn between checking out or maintaining the status quo. In other words should I stay in pharma sales or retire early. The money is to good to pass up and the quality of life here is unparalleled. What are other people thinking?

You are in a wonderful spot. The option of retiring early is wonderful. If your co-rep in your layered territory is not in such a position; you should communicate to upper management that you would entertain a offer. That would be a win/win for you and your coworker. I left pharma, but not at a retirement age; I found a home in investments.

You are fortunate you have the option to retire early. Seeing the imminent cutbacks on the horizon I got out last year. I received a cash settlement and am now back in college studying to become a Dr (chiropractor). At my age (42) I still have plenty of time and my wife (in this field) is doing $200K+ a year here in soCal. This is a great career and you make people feel so much better ! So think about a new career and don't be afraid to go back to school, if necessary.
