Why are BI oncology reps paid more than the rest of the company?

This thread won't die... reason oncology pays more is simple: CANCER... CANCER = $$$$$BIG$$$$

CANCER is a super powerful word... tell someone you have hypertension, asthma, or diabetes and likely they'll think you just a fat ass eating too much junk food..say you have C A N C E R and next thing you know you have a go fund me facebook page...people wearing ribbons... doing charity walks... bringing you over food to the house....going to Disney for free...

Oncologists have never heard a patient ask "does that come in a generic or what's the co-pay or maybe I'll just wait and see if I can loose a few pounds and exercise more"

Hence these reps make more $$$ because they make the company more $$$$$

So with this big “$$$$$” why can’t BI hire more intelligent managers. You would think with such a competitive market, this would be the case.

So...what exactly does an oncology rep make here at B.I.? In cardiology, with 20yrs of experience I am making 130k base. Do oncology reps make considerably more than that?

Nice, obviously you have done well for yourself as far as BI standards go. Anyone else with that tenure at a real company probably earned that with 12 years in their specialty.
Oncology is truly a unique division that requires a different level of self understanding, compassion, and drive.
Much like any niche market; if you have to ask then you simply do not belong.
Best of hope with your cardiovascular endeavors.

What a D-bag. In oncology most people I know are making in the 160-170 range. Myself included. It all happened when the division started and we had a director pull most of us away from GSK. He hated GSK and paid us a ton to move to BI.

Interesting. I am not from GSK like many are here. While my base is in the high 150’s, it is not in the 160 - 170 range. I wonder if HR has done an analysis on this? Just by looking at them, GSK did not groom a bunch of “all-stars”. ie. Charlie/Doug

Did you say compassion?...Then what in the hell is Deron Matthews doing here in this division? That dude only gives a sh*t about himself.

these idiots have no where else to go. If they make that kind of cash, they will stay here until the train goes off the tracks. And by the looks of things, the train is heading that direction. The GSK connection is dying, Charlie, Doug, don’t embarrass yourselves any longer. Your leadership, or lack thereof, is horrible. Go off to pasture. We are getting our lunch eaten and there is no direction. Good people leaving, and no action. The Market Development goon, Adam, is eating a ham sandwich. Marketing has no answers. This place is sinking!! If I am not interviewing, shame on me.

Keeping in Classy BI - oncology studs are the mystics of all BI sales divisions
Rumor has it annually they appear with Starbucks and Smoothies as an offering to a random cancer center in your town.
The abominable snowman is more likely to be seen by oncologists than these rare birds
