Vas wrote it ‘was not a good day for Novartis’, referring to the day when Novartis was exposed in media for paying Essential Consultants. In Trump’s words, “Sad!” I bet that when you signed a contract to pay Trump’s lawyer $1.2 million, you thought it was a good day, a great day! You wanted to outsmart everyone with this sleazy, unethical tactics – bribe your way through, pay for access and keep it quiet! No one predicted a Stormy weather, ha? In hindsight, you should have paid Frau Stormy some hush money too: it would be incremental to the bribing amount (she charges for non-disclosure agreements 10 times less than you paid Cohen) and it would be incremental to further decline of already low ethical standards at Novartis. Hiring Stormy as a Compliance Trainer for Novartis Executives could be another option – sure she would deliver ‘services’, so at least you’d not be criticized for paying for nothing!

Swirling in hot water, Novartis does everything to distance themselves from this infamous agreement, stating “It was a mistake’ (oh yeh, just an ordinary mistake!) and attempting to dismiss it (“Novartis considers this matter closed”). They are crying out loud ‘forget it, let’s move one’, tomorrow will be a new day and hopefully, no other dirty deals will be disclosed! So we will claim again ‘Novartis is an ethical company”, which sounds like a bad joke now. As much as the company wants to close this case, it is not going to happen soon. Transparency International Switzerland questions now the “considerable” sum of money paid to Cohen’s firm. “It is hard to determine if the line of action taken by Novartis was legally and morally in order,” Transparency boss Martin Hilti was quoted saying: “When lobbying payments are made in the shadows or when the aim is to buy access with political decision makers, then it is highly problematic.”
