I’ve read a lot of crazy threads on here over the past couple of days when a coworker asked if I had been on cafepharma lately.
It all comes down to one simple statement. If Genentech really cared about and valued its employees, they wouldn’t do any layoffs and focus on other alternative solutions. It’s sad because this has nothing to do with the money. Examples such as the give back concert and the exhorbinent meetings are simply a tax write off an attraction to new employee prospects. I don’t think many had a clue how ruthless Genentech is a layoffs here have been the norm. If they weren’t happening out in the field, they were happening inside. Unfortunately, transformation has backfired a bit with the MS franchise (of which I’m not apart of but know many in that franchise) and morale is at an intense low and this definitely will cause a rippling affect in losing really good employees that won’t be affected this round. I’ve been told my franchise is fine and there will be no cuts, but only time will tell.

I read the thread about the similarities between Genentech and the movie THE CIRCLE, and unfortunately it’s true. From outside the walls and perception, this seems like a place that would take care of their own but it isn’t true. Behind the glitz is yet another example of corporate greed and brutality. After being here for six years, I’ve come to realize this is a company that will pack a huge wallup or punch to any employee that doesn’t conform to their ways and kiss ass. The culture here is like no other but in a bad way. There is no trust and praise is only given to what we refer to as the “super brown nosers” that will join any committee and do the least amount of work on that committee just to get the credit. We have seen this for many years. I’m sure if you are reading this now and you are from the MS franchise, you could easily name off the super brown nosers that are notorious for doing that and are as superficial as they come. A normal company can spot those rats a mile away, especially when they figure out they really do nothing other than be a seat warmer and another check mark to their laundry list of self promotion.

The use of the word diversity has been a laughable joke. We are not talking necessarily about your sexual orientation or ethnicity but if you don’t become the pawn and talk like them or act like them, they will find a way to throw you out. Doing well with your sales/numbers despite this? No problem. They will just raise your goal so high and get you on a PIP before you can blink an eye. Trust me, I have seen how brutal they can be under the radar. By the way, have you missed a few Ocre sales people at meetings over the last several months? I could share stories that would curl your skin how they booted these employees out and treated them like dirt. Those are the things you’ll never hear about unless you happen to get a little juice out of one of their direct teammates.

Believe it or not, there are companies out there that never lay off. You care about your employees? Then don’t lay them off and find another way. It really is that simple. And yes. As hard as this is even to process, GENENTECH DOES payoff a few moles to wreak Havok on these threads in an attempt to shunt them and de authenticate them. Sad but true.

Very sad but true. I've been with GNE for 17 years and can't believe the pit it has become. Yes, Genentech did care about its own at one time. There have always been jerks, (as in any company), but NOTHING like the herds of them employed by GNE in the past few years. People who would have never been considered are in leadership positions and it shows. So sorry for those of you who joined the 'myth' that GNE has become. Herb, Bob, Art, and Sue were the real deal and I continue to thank them for that quality experience for many years. Some of the best people I've known work,(ed), for Genentech and that's what I value most. Alas, too many have gone and I'm about the accept an offer from another company myself. Can't stand on the deck of the Titanic another week. You might want to consider the same. Good luck, all.

Agreed with both posts!!! 14 year veteran here and extremely sad what this company has become. No value in its people at all anymore. I don’t even know this company anymore. It was hard for me to take the initial steps to look for another opportunity and thought this would be my forever company, but I was fooling myself.

I really appreciate the comments in this thread. I left a great company to come here. I was very successful and have great relationships. I came here expecting to stay until ( hopefully ) retirement. I did not come here for a 2 year contract job, but unfortunately Genentech has pulled the bait and switch on me. I now realize I have been used and most likely will be disposed of. Genentech has proven to be one of the most disgusting unethical companies I have ever worked for. They are disingenuous and transparency is a joke. I made a huge mistake coming here, and have a few offers in place from other companies. I gurantee they will drop dramatically in next years best places to work. I am fully intending on revealing their ethics to all those organizations. Genentech Senior Leadership how do you sleep at night? Thanks for ruining my career. Karma is a bitch and yours is coming soon.

I’m right there with you! What’s scary is that I could have personally written your post. I’m in the exact same spot although I’m not fortunate to have any other jobs lined up. I’ve been seriously lied to and it’s been nothing but a nightmare. Now I will be left trying to pick up the pieces. I gave up so much to be here and now treated like disgarded trash.

The difficult part of coming here, for me, was also working so hard and slowly looking around, and noticing those that are celebrated and promoted are some of the laziest/unqualified people. The qualities that are noticed here: self promotion, box checkers, and Genentech corporate speakers. These are the people valued at Genentech. Not the innovators, the agile, the team players.

I have met some really great people here, but those people are getting spoken over, are unappreciated, and deserve a better place to use their skills. I have no doubt that other companies would consider themselves lucky to have these people.

Many of us waiting could have written this very fair assessment. All of us are at risk, but I am most likely safe due to being dealt one of the best territories. I have friends in the territories that were dealt a losing hand from the beginning, but many of those folks have still made it happen despite the odds. In hindsight I wish I would not have left my former company. I am fortunate that I left on good terms, and am in discussion about returning. Even if I don’t get cut ( which I don’t think is very likely ) I will be leaving due to not being able to work for a company devoid of values and lack of compassion for their people. Making everyone wait while already knowing who is being cut is a way for this corrupt company to avoid paying severance to those cut. Case in point, several have already jumped ship. Good luck to all my friends in this franchise, it’s sad Genentech is doing this.

No one is safe. Prepare and get on LinkedIn ASAP. ZS consulting has a lawsuit proof algorithm they use. Don’t take that attitude or you will be very shocked.

Genuine prayers to everyone. We know this isn’t about our performance and it sucks beyond belief. At the end of the day, whether you are affected or not, let’s promise ourselves we work very hard to get those affected jobs. Everyone needs everyone at this point and we all need to band together.

Actually all we need is Senior Leadership to grow a brain and a heart. This doesn’t need to heppen at all. It’s about revenue not patients, customers, or employees.

As someone who's been at GNE for many years, (and leaving), get out before you invest anymore time and energy. The myth is dead.

You all screamed "we didn't do it like that at my old company" Well guess what Biogen West is here. You whined for it and you got it. Transformed this right into the vision that Jones wanted from day 1. Amy&Jonesy created a toxic environment from day 1.Let everyone whine and carry on instead of focusing on moving the business. Well when the bolus of patients were on drug, the tremendously overstaffed sales force had 3-4 customers to call on. What's going to be left after 6/27? The same toxic entitled environment. Minimized roles of partners, all rolling up to? You guessed it Mike Jones. All with a few more layers of management (insulation from the heat) to protect themselves.

I personally didn’t hate my previous company. In fact, I enjoyed working there but literally was wooed to come over and I admit I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. This has been the most toxic environment I have ever worked for. I can honestly tell you that I have never worked with so many egomaniacs in all my life. How about just doing your damn job? So sick of all these people trying to claw their way to the top and grabbing every committee opportunity before anyone even has a chance to apply. So sick of these types making the private meetings with upper management. Your hard work and intgrity should speak for itself yet it doesn’t seem to apply here. They encourage this blatant activity whereas other companies would see right through it. So very sad.

Welcome to Genentech. Liberal run and operated. Working here is like being in a country club. You must get the members approval for acceptance. Have you ever heard of Club DNA?
