How many hours do you work?

I'm in disposables. Our minimum expectation is 2 hospitals with 5 booked calls per day. There is a great deal of prep work in regards to creating business cases, and follow-up as well, with a lot of inservicing at all hours.

Depending on the season, I'd say 12-14 hour days are the norm for us.

 

Currently, I work 40 hours a week (I combine work and study, so I have part time job)

 

im a pharma rep selling in the hospital and in the OR (implantable drug) and I can whole heartedly say I work about 25-30 hours a week and make $175+/year, company car, benefits, 401k and all expenses paid. I once was a trauma rep who thought that 80-90hrs a week was the norm. Now I work smart instead of hard.

Highly doubtful. What kind of disposables are you selling that requires 70 hour work week?

 

Ethicon. I pre-call plan every gallbladder, as it is imperative for me to discuss the "dome down" technique. Not to mention MY docs wouldn't dare start the adhesiolysis case without me....great place to be.

 

Damn who do you work for and where can I apply?

 

I work for 8 hours/day. I work for Medical appliance supplier firm in North Carolina.

 

I literally had two to three appointments tops a week selling consumables because I never heard from the customer unless they had a backorder and if all was well, they didn't need me. Always hit my number and sat back and twiddled my thumbs. In retrospect, I should have had a side job.

Sage Products (now part of Stryker) is like this. Many of the reps do very well financially but it's a really hard gig in terms of hours. Business cases, inservicing (sometimes 11 at night or 5am in the ED) and a minimum 2 hospitals/4 booked calls a day. My manager there allowed half an admin day every two weeks. I made some good coin but got completely burnt out and moved on.

This is my kind of gig. Do you mind sharing what you do and with who?

 

I worked in spine implant sales for a bit at a big trauma hospital. I got to the hospital at 6am and left by about 8:30pm most nights. Weekends I usually had 1-2 cases and prep for Monday. So they were typically about 8am-4pm days. I was always on call though so it could fluctuate up or down by about 10 hours per week. I’d say I averaged 14*5+2*7 = 84 hours per week. It was a similar number of hours as the neurosurgery residents we worked with. I had a couple days I worked like 30hours straight because I got a trauma call at night that required a lot of waiting around.

 

i work in the federal marketplace. my call points are only open from 7/8am to 3:30/4pm. I am very new to this job. Currently exceeding my targets by about 135%. If I remain exactly on this track my compensation for my first year will be around 125k. Honestly I can't tell you how many hours I'm actually working because I tend to blend together my admin and sales ops duties and my time at home, but I will say that it is extremely rare for me to not be finished for the day and back home beyond 2 or 3:00 on any given day. It does require more prep time/research at home compared to non-federal, because for the most part you cannot call on a facility without a pre-arranged appointment.
