Those guys in Maintenance walk around bragging about their "teambuilding ventures" eating and drinking on Buyogen's money! They should go ahead and outsource the department like they keep talking about. They are wasting their money with these 6 figure losers.

While the layoff is regrettable, what did you honestly expect? If you search the threads there were warnings almost two years ago, when they shuttered Camb manufacturing. Biotech companies make money from manufacturing and it's sales force. While research is obviously important, you can buy drugs. If a company no longer manufactures at a specific site, why do they need groups that support that? Camb QC is a year gone as well. There really isn't a need to have any type of groups in Camb, since there is nothing being produced there.
IT is mainly supporting groups that are there solely to support manufacturing and sales.
Those groups that support manufacturing are traditionally staged where manufacturing is being done.. such as RTP or Denmark.. The supporting groups such as Product complaints, QA, QC , etc are in process or will be more than likely shipped there. Then you won't need HR, facilities etc... Then start thinking about all the science based jobs... won't it be better served for the company if these positions are based where the manufacturing is occurring?
The real question people should ask is .. what does my job support and what dept does that support.. if it boils down to manufacturing... you may want to be prepared....
on a side note, at least you got the choice to move to RTP.. very few groups have gotten that choice....

Wow! That's rough for the IT gang; the CIO Andrea was kicked out (for non-performance) last year. I was offered an IT Exec job last year, and while the pay was good, I was uneasy about the shifty HR people who were unable to answer strategic future questions - so I declined their offer and went elsewhere. Thank God I dodged that bullet. No wonder HR was shiftier than usual - the weasels were lying to me about great prospects - Ha!

It’s so sad at Biogen lately. Very quiet in Weston. More It people will be leaving in October I had heard. I think all of procurement will eventually be moved to RTP.

PO&T should be called PO-RTP. Another quiet layoff with a bunch of quality and mid line managers shown the door.

The sad thing:. A lot of these people were behind all the launches, but I guess all the money needs to go to buying back more stock.

If I was in QC or operations in Weston I'd be getting ready to be forced to RTP. Paul isn't willing expend any political capital to fight for his people.

Not sure where you have been but QC exited MA well over a year ago. Weston only exists because...a big lease.. once space is freed up in Cambridge with the mass exodus (by choice or not) the site will be vacated.. all 4 remaining people will be moving to the Cambridge office.

Town of Weston has fought like hell to keep Biogen locked into that lease for its entirety or face a complete repeal of all prior benefits received from the town. Weston loves to market that Biogen is in their town or that they have a Fortune 500 company located in-town. That lease coming up soon I’ve heard.

Well..Monster is there now, too so maybe the town will be happy...

That would have been a big deal in 2001. I've seen what the prior poster meant. Weston loves the cultural cachet that comes with a fortune 500 biotech. They tout it a lot.

CEO/ COO dont impress me. There have been all these small scale layoffs with no announcements for years. You just find out one day that a department has been gutted.

God forbid mgt at any level actually mentions this. In meantime we continue to buy back tons of stock instead of buying some assets. Dont get me started in the security fiefdom that has been created in PO&T, even though everywhere else has been cut.

100% agree. All small “trimmings” to avoid and dodge the media on job cuts since late 2016. Now jobs are being lost to GBS by offshoring or in some cases shifting to cheaper NC. Watch out for some areas of the company shifting to remote based employees in the US. The roles are filled by cheaper resources coming from the South or mid west. This very thing is happening in R&D. Slowly downsizing the footprint in Cambridge...

Much harder working, ethical, intelligent people in the Midwest and South. Those in Northeast have no clue about the real world. Smart move by Biogen!

Check the location. Don't be surprised if your dream job is in RTP or Poland.

    WRONG!!! FAKE NEWS!!!

Job reqs are staying open for months and some are approaching a year because they were moved to RTP. The south doesn't invest in education, and therefore doesn't have nearly the number of educated people as the Northeast. And, come on, we know that the folks in RTP "work from home" more than a housewife! They don't do shit but complain. Too busy going to Trump rallies to actually learn anything a corporation can use.

People in the Northeast are worthless. Living miserable lives in small dwellings for way more than they make having nannies raise the kids and seeing them “when convenient”. Have fun cussing out 5 people while driving to work for 2 hours and walking on your crowded, cold streets tomorrow while your au paire “educates” your kids, you loser.
