I'd like to kick his ass, and he knows I would if I ever had the chance. He put me on a PIP and I came through it. He didnt like that. Now he looks for anything I do to get me. He wont. But, I do know is life story, and, it isn't pretty. Like an earlier post said, his wife left him. Hes a divorcee. He lost his kids. People hate him. But he can say he is a big bad DCO in Oklahoma! Whats up hairlip? I also know that he reads CP. He has tried to find a way to go after comments made about him on here. But, he knows thats not really possible. He is a prick and likes the fact that he is seen as such a tough-guy Merck man. Thats what he lives for. When it all ends, he will have zero in life.

If you really survived a Merck PIP, you already have kicked his ass. Congratulations! The PIP's I've seen have had such abnormally high behavioral expectations with regard to planning and conduct that no reps are able to survive them and either get terminated or leave just prior to termination. It's ironic that our best reps couldn't and don't perform the behaviors demanded by a PIP. It is so transparent that PIP's are all about rep removal through termination or resignation and have nothing to do with genuine improvement. Another fine example of the duplicity that exists everywhere at Merck that has contributed largely to our problems and downfall. Again, congratulations for your superior effort and sticking it to them.

His strategy of kissing a#s worked except with a twist. I guess if you blow TC enough, you get the job.

Only reason he got a job was that no one else would take Oklahoma! Sorry, no offense meant to Okies, but that Paul is a bad mother, shut your mouth....

Ok, maybe I went too fast.....where is Marvin Johnson??? Did they all get re-badged?? Looking at the severance packages, they'd have to pay less if they drop kick up in 12 vs 13. I sure hope we don't have to wait til end of year for reps!!!

Back in the fall of '08, you betcha I was JUBILANT - even though I truly felt betrayed by "mother".

At the time, when she eliminated my position and offered me a new position AT A LOWER SALARY, I knew that she had taken a big step away from the mother that had nurtured me throughout the earlier years of my career to one that, for some reason, now needed to feed on her children.

At the time, we (all) had entered our 4th consecutive year in which our annual merit target had failed to meet even the conservative level of CPI increase (hence, compounding declines in our purchasing power / long-term value of pension / bonus / etc).

At the time of my release, I was relieved to be away from leaderless cesspool that had emerged.

Now that my retiree dental is about to be cancelled, and the defined-benefit pension plans of all of the remaining MRKies will soon be no-more, I am TRULY Jubilant that I was released with the old severance package (and a very nice one it was ... until, of course, mother began chipping away at the promises she made) and allowed the opportunity to discover what I have ... the wonderful world that exists outside of mummy's grasp.

I wish you all well. The severance once WAS a sweet deal - then it became a package that APPEARED to be a sweet deal - it is now even less sweet - and, it would appear that mummy can renege on any promise she wishes, so it is reasonable to expect that it will, eventually become not sweet at all, but bitter like the environment in which you now work.

There is no question in my mind that the package will be less and less sweet as the years roll by --- at least it will be consistent with the changes you can expect to see in your work environment as mother's hunger for child-flesh increases.

    Best of luck ....

Once Jubilant, now Happy, and truly sorry for you.

Reps who are the most valuable and get PIP'd are often the quickest to go. They don't need Merck and don't need to take any bullshit. That's my story, except I didn't even wait for the PIP. Told the CTL and DCO to go f--k themselves and that was that.

I AM over mummy, and came back on your board to see if anyone was discussing ramifications of the pension changes on those bridged to retirement --the cancellation of our retiree Dental benefit has me a bit nervous regarding which of the other promises mummy made as part of the "package" are also of false nature.

Saw the thread on New Directors .... which mentioned lots of placements that occurred just after I got my notice in '08 and I wanted to see who did well (back then). At the time, I was in too much shock to be keeping up on such things.

Brought back memories (many good), and it was good to see at least some good people achieving leadership positions back then.

The tone of your reply quickly brought me back to reality -and that my decision to take the package, spread my little wings, and fly away was one of the best ones of my life.

Seriously, all the best to those of you that remain under mummies grasp.

Jeez. These are names I have not seen in forever. Is Andre still kicking at Merck or has he moved onto other ventures? I think Jim was originally out and ultimately landed back on his feet at mother Merck. Is he still there? Ivan, he needed that job like a hole in his head. Great sales leader but more money than God. Think he works on the Vendor side now for fun.
