Yes, Michigan voted for Trump in ‘16 but that doesn’t make them a red state. In 3 of the last 4 elections (since the whole red state blue state thing started) Michigan has voted DEMOCRAT. The also have two DEMOCRAT senators. So they are clearly a blue state.
