This is the eternal question very similar to Pepsi verses Coke. That's what I say to clients and leave it up to them. I prefer reading the TP to SP because I don't have to focus up and down as much, therefore I am less likely to miss something. The differences on the data are really so small I hardly think it matters. Sadly, I have been so spoiled with both of them I now hate reading the much less expensive regular smear.

    OMG,

I can't believe this debate still continues. I sold Thinprep 9 years ago and this is still being talked about. The advent of Thinprep NEVER reduced the cervical cancer rate, only annual screenings did. This was the biggest shaft product in the history of diagnostics and Cytyc people made a killing. Surepath was a product with 42 steps in its process and it was NO better. How these products still have a sales force that actually continues to get commissioned on this is unbelievable.

They kicked out their experienced reps and hired new reps with no brains and managers with the same qualifications. I have no idea why they all still have jobs. I moved on a few years ago myself, seeing the handwriting on the wall. There was nothing to do when the market got saturated. It was very boring. I bailed when Hologic bought Cytyc and the grass is definitely greener where I am now. I got a great job in lab sales and the Cytyc experienced helped me to land the job. That was the only good thing that came out of being constantly degraded. The management always bought into manage by intimidation. Good luck to those that are left.

seriously there is no reason to continue this thread. lets focus on the bs @ hand with hologic

  6. Now they gotta sell that crappy imager which misses cases and is NO improvement. At least labs can lay people off and its a new cpt code to make mo money. hologic claims they will go to court with the lab if they get sued over a missed cancer. We will see.

Spoken like a true uneducated "Sales Rep" that has never actually used the product or worked in a Lab. Crawl back into you cave and comment on things you know something about.....like, catering lunches!

  9. Look buddy, you are gonna meet the same fate. Good luck selling what few products you offer in a declining market. Aint no future in pap testing.

Re: Looks like we have a flip of the coin...

I don't work for either company I want that to be clear nor have I ever however, I have done my research and the only question I would ask you is this...

Is breaking off the head of the brush worth the risk of getting a false negative and putting a patient at risk of dying? The false negative rate is undisputable Sure-Path loses in every known study...and that's why Thin-Prep has 70% market share.

To bring this back to your comment...Thin-prep can't dispute the No ECC levels they have, but that means they bring the patient back in for another test...A false negative puts lives at risk...Plan and simple and that's undisputable.

Thinprep have market share cause they were first and they are very aggressive. Also, not having FDA approval for HPV is a major negative. At this point no labs are gonna switch. Pap testing is going away. You will have to visit a science museum to see how it used to be. There is no future for these products. Hologics sales were down another 4 percent and they will continue to decline.

I guess you don't know about the Quest agreement? BD & Qiagen need to be much more worried about their products and sales.

Quest agreement? what is it? Like it matters. Pap testing is dying off. Hear about the new guidelines? A pap/hpv every 5 years. Michael douglas will cause everyone to get the vaccine and then no more HPV. Cant believe people dont just get vaccinated. How stupid.

    Cancer Causes Control (2016) 27:15–25

Comparing SurePath, ThinPrep, and conventional cytology as primary test method: SurePath is associated with increased CIN II+ detection rates.
