If you’re not familiar, take a look at what Straumann’s SLactive can do for your practice, your patients and your confidence. With integration in as little as 3-4 weeks we offer something that nobody else can. This is one of many ways we can help you achieve better results. Simply doing more.

There is no research that supports your claims that SLActive surface treatment will result in “ integration in as little as 3-4 weeks”or that SLActive surface will “help get better results”. It takes 8-12 weeks for new bone to form at the Implant interface which is the definition of osseointegration. An Implant can function in an immediate load condition if initial stability of 30-40Ncm torque is achieved, in which case, where the healing process is at 3-4 weeks is irrelevant. Yes, increasing wetability of the Implant surface may give a 5 minute head-start to osseointration that will take place over the following 8-12 weeks but that is of no clinical significance. Using a tapered Implant in an undersized socket to increase initial stability does have a significant effect on clinical success in soft bone and early loading. Straumann finally recognized this with the introduction of its bone level tapered Implant in 2014, 15 years after I introduced the tapered Screw-Vent still sold by Zimmer Dental. The real advantage (to Straumann) of SLActive vs SLA surface treatment is the $70 extra Straumann charges its customers which is about twice what the implants cost to make in the first place. This is what Is called an uncomfortable truth

Unfortunately you’re mistaken. We have lots of information and studies to support these claims. I’d invite you to take a look at any of the multitude of available information available at https://www.straumann.com/en/professionals/products-and-solutions/dental-implants/dental-implant-surfaces.html I’d be happy to discuss and show you how we not only continually out perform the implant you designed surgically, prosthetically, short and long term we do so predictably and at a lower total treatment cost from start to finish vs most other systems at your convenience. While a tapered implant certainly has its place in treatments we offer a wide range of products so the clinician can choose the option that’s best suited to the patient and not force them to place the only thing they have due to the lack of research and development other companies don’t invest in. We offer long term solutions not short term fixes.

I understand that having just an undergraduate degree in economics does not qualify you to analyze the research you reference, conducted by paid opinion leaders for Straumann, so at best you can only regurgitate marketing claims. I have no financial interest in the sale of Implant Direct’s or Zimmer Dental’s (Screw-Vent) products, both of which I developed. The fact that you claim Straumann offers “lower treatment cost”, when its US list price for an Implant, cover screw, healing collar and straight abutment is $838 verses the same components from Implant Direct for its Legacy4 Implant with all-in-1 packaging is $230 (3.65X as much) is astounding. It just proves you don't know what you are talking about or hope dentists are gullible enough to believe you just because you work for Straumann, a company I licensed twice for violating my patents.

Here is one fact that is “tough to dispute” - The comparative cost for single tooth replacement hardware from Implant Direct ($230 - Legacy4) is $608 less than the $838 Straumann charges, yet you claim that dentists should use Straumann products for “a lower treatment cost from start to finish.” If you think that “cheap is cheap” implying that there is a direct relationship between cost and quality or results, what do you have to say about Straumann’s Brazilian made Neodent implants that sell for about $175 in the US and less than $100 in Brazil?

$838? That’s your first problem. That is highly inaccurate.

ran into another 4 practice OMS group the other day.....i asked how much they were paying for Straumann....he told me close to $400! and no healing collar. So if they place 300 implants in that one location....going with Implant Direct saves them $60,000/year....and this is low balling. Not including all the other parts, or bone or membrane...which they are probably getting killed on as well. They just will never get it, and they will continue to throw their money in the street and burn it, which is what they are doing staying with Straumann and the likes.

    Dr. Niznick,
Do you really have nothing better to do than argue with sales reps on a dental forum? That is so pathetic it’s actually sad... why don’t you go back to harassing doctors and posting your patents on LinkedIn?

Niznick has so much money he can waste his time however he chooses to do. That money includes millions from Straumann on a patent infringement law suit years ago. Say what you want about him but the man is brilliant and his great grandchildren will have more money then any of us lowly reps ever will.
