    Anyone offered?

That has been common practice for right sizing to get someone to resign. I know for a fact it happened in my region for respiratory before the last layoff.

It's a way to let you go with a bit of dignity. If you don't accept the offer, you are terminated without severance. Word on the street is that there will be more of these offered in the near future. This is not a scare tactic. The company will be divesting the Respiratory division by 2020. That includes SVPs and TSMs as well...everybody! I offer this piece of advice, if you are under the age of 55 you should be seriously looking for other opportunities outside this organization. You can stick your head in the sand and pretend like it's not going to happen but Emma has been clear as have other executives within the company. Or have you forgotten what was said by the head of our Oncology team? Do you remember all the damage control Jack and Cheryl had to do?

TBA has enough documented history at recent GSK through respiratory and all sales BUs that it should be offered simply out of consistency for those who resign in good standing.

TBA is commonplace at GSK. I personally know two recently who accepted. One told me she was simply tired of the manager bullying and took it. I think it is a good idea depending on the person.

These are great since GSK doesn’t want to be sued for all the shady behavior. I can’t blame them, lawsuits could look ugly in court especially all the patient first issues.

My advice is take some time before signing it, milk the time all you can. Delay meetings like George Costanza would to 1. Squeeze every paycheck you can. 2. Get the job search going.

Is this still happeing post reorganization. If so that is really LOW...why did they not lay off everyone they needed out?

YES!! Manager here. Our FVP’s expectation is that each one of us managers will have at least 1 person we go after to put on PIP. We don’t discuss how to motivate positively, the majority of discussions are finding all of the behaviors the SPs do wrong or not good enough. If we do not identify the “lowest” individual on our team, we aren’t doing our job good enough. What the SPs do not know or understand is that managers’ ratings depend on many things, this being one of them. We are pushed to do immoral things constantly just to meet metrics so FVP can look good. Everything is about the FVP looking good performancewise. Think about it, they reap rewards for meeting sales goals. No one is brave enough to stand up and refuse because they will be cut immediately.

What needs to get out publicly is the fact that TSMs, RSDs and SVPs never have "performance" issues. For them to be placed on a PIP is nearly impossible. Typically happens if reps go to HR in mass and threaten legal action. Even then HR moves at a snails pace. If GSK is following the Jack Welch philosophy, then management needs to be included in performance management. Which means, there should always be a bottom 20%..ALWAYS! Would love litigation to expose the continued unethical behavior by this organization. Shameful is too nice of a word. Just to prove my point. Can any of you name a TSM or RSD who has been let go? Layoffs and retirement are another subject. When was the last time you saw either a TSM or RSD leave the organization on their own? Gimme one name of a person in the last five years..just one. Betcha cant do it.

Thanks for being honest. It echoes what many have observed over the last few years. This place is a clown show and it really shows.

Falsified RSD field coaching reports are simply an HR tool to allow management to harass someone out the door. Simple as that.

The TBA is so that the company can avoid litigation for such a shady practice. It goes on all year, not just during reorgs.

what the company asking you to do unethical perhaps even illegal things? GSK? Like when they demanded reps to sell meds off-label to pediatricians? Proves the point that GSK is a bad company run by bad people! The company circles the drain, fun to watch!!

Watched a friend get managed out. The ridiculous issues the Region Manager brought up against him were things others were doing. Really nit picking behaviors. Obviously they will try to get rid of people this way before the next reorg. Sad

Nit picking would be correct. Look, it’s mostly a game to them. No real business strategy.

I wanted out of this “shit show”, so I worked with my manager to manage me out. It was a beautiful thing! Laughed all the way to the bank!

Same here. Timing was right and life is too short to hate your job

How would this TBA process/discussion start - is it with your manager or HR? Would the manager have be in agreement?

It can happen quickly. Look for a meeting with your boss or FVP in person or by conference call. There will be a brief discussion about their findings followed by an TBA offer. You’re given a few days to decide. Take the offer. They have probably made up things to get you in this position, and they’ll make us more to get rid of you with no severance. There’s better opportunities out there with a better quality of life. Good luck.

Saw this happen to a coworker a while back. It was a ridiculous trumped up litany of "bad behaviors" - same behaviors that many other reps at the time were committing. Rep was offered a package and they took it- this was a few months before the big layoff last year so it prompted me to ask for the package which I got. My sense was this was an age related thing-- I ended up in a much more enjoyable job situation and look back at gsk as a nighmare-- almost like ptsd at how miserable I was and what a relief to get out. There are better opportunities out there so good luck.
