Looking to get out of big pharma—just came across a job posted for Skinceuticals Derm sales. Can anyone share what it’s like there? Hopefully better than big pharma? Culture, access, KPIs, ride-alongs, compensation? I know it will be a pay cut but tired of the bull$&@“ in big pharma.

There is currently a mass exodus from the field force. Products are amazing and company benefits are good. Other than that you will be overworked, underpaid and not appreciated at all by upper and middle management. There is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ mentality- you are only as good as your last month. New metrics in pilot program in place for account opening and you will be micromanaged to the max. This will be commonplace for the entire field force in 2019.

Common base around 75k. Commission depends on territory size- ask this question in an interview. Goals are inflated, out of stocks are rampant and the market is saturated. A lot depends on territory history you will inherit. 20-30k is a good starting point commission-wise as you also do not a training bonus. For the most part it is a pay cut from pharma- lots of stress for the amount you will be paid.

The only reps making real money are diverting the product through shady accounts. Corporate says they don’t tolerate diversion but then pay the backs of those who clearly aren’t doing the right thing. Toxic culture. Run don’t walk away

First off, it’s a challenging sale, but not rocket science. The largest challenge is closing new accounts. Most of your time should be spent there. Second, if you’re only making $20-30k in commission per year, you’re not trying. No, you may not make quota every month. But you should be making quota 9 of 12 months and average $6-$8k each month you make quota. If you really rock it, you could make $200k. However, that all depends on your territory and how many accounts you open. The thing is, in pharma you have 1-4 products. Here, you have 50+. It’s a lot to manage.

Is this a good job to take as a gateway to pharma? Anyone make the leap from skinceuticals to a medical dermatology pharma company? If so, which is better place to be (pharma gig or skinceuticals gig)? Thx

Pay may be lower (depending on type of pharma sales you get into it or leave from) but not having headache insurance companies, specialty pharmacy snakes, and compliance becoming more and more unrealistic would be worth it for quality of life improving.

There is a mass exit at this company because of poor upper management. AH is a terrible VP. She instills fear, and is acts as a dictator. If you state facts that are inconsistent with an unrealistic outcome that upper management wants, you will be labeled as a trouble maker. Once you have that label they will target you.

Goals are unrealistic, and reps have left in droves. All reps report the reason why they left as AH and HR seems to cover for her, and nothing changes.

If an account diverts they take it in house and allow the account to still order products. The rep is still responsible for the inflated numbers caused by diversion, that have been taken in house. This way SkinCeuticals can keep the money for the diversion accounts and not pay the reps. If they were truly worried about diversion, they wouldn’t punish the rep. It would be an atmosphere where the rep could report diversion and have it taken out of their goal.
Managers leave and reps.. the west coast barely has anyone left. It’s really bad here.

The company expects you to make goal, yet the top SKUS are out of stock. Your goals are based on selling these top SKUS. Orders are cut in half many times because of out of stock issues, yet our goal never changes. It’s actually assine.

If you complain about OOS or anything they tell you to focus on the controlable..

so your saying to sell a product that I don’t actually have.. um ok.

The products are amazing.. but upper management is so cocky, and have the worst attitude. It’s all about to come crumbling down.they don’t treat the accounts or reps with respect.

I am so sad that I left a good stable job to come here. I love the products, but the management and out of stocks make hitting goal impossible no matter what kind of deals you make with car stock and with opening a a few new accounts per month. The market is saturated overall and it's hard to keep opening new doors. I don't think this company will survive in the market where our competitors are out doing us in customer service, automatic back order shipments and true business development unless they clean house with management and figure out their manufacturing issues ASAP. Customers are fed up and the employees are too.

Who is in charge of all the products not being In stock? They should seriously be fired. It’s ridiculous that 16 SKUs are out of stock .. these lame excuses are so ridiculous.

You project goals for reps so you know what you expect in sales from goals.. you have data that shows how each product trends.. yet these products are out of stock and you do nothing to adjust goals..

The company won’t approve accounts to open yet they sell online and at BM what a joke. They say they are against diversion yet they sell to divertors just keep in house so TW can make her goal..

AH actively works with divertors and sends them to BM and Dermstore.. just another way to f$&@ over the reps. Hostile back stabbing work environment.

This place doesn’t respect employees and has a 60% turnover rate. Most companies understand that the sales team makes their salary possible.. not this company they actively hurt their reps and don’t respect team.

I’m sorry .. update 17 SKUS out of stock..

Thank you TF for words of encouragement on glycolic 10 cleanser.. considering almost all other cleansers are on “back order” I’m sure this is a great accomplishment. You’re doing great sweetie.

It’s funny how our products aren’t on back order in Dermstore... Which is AH big account .. Dermstore gets to place a big order and wipes out stock... then Derm stores gives discounts. AH are also doing great sweetie
