Will TS ever promote from within? Plenty of people that deserve a promotion, but they never seem to come.

Unfortunatley there right. I've been trying for years to get promoted in my own department and laterally, but even with ratings of exceeds and your ready. I hear every excuse possible and so I have given up all hope....

Most people never join JNJ looking for growth and promotions. JNJ is a good place to make some steady income just to pay the bare basics. Want more money and growth do something on the side. Most people in my department run businesses on the side and for many as years pass the JNJ income becomes play money.

yup you got that right - that way you are ready for the layoff and don't miss the paycheck.

This makes me very concerned. We just promoted two people in my team and we are working on a third. If leaders do not promote within, it is usually because timing is off, the internal person is not ready when the role opens, the person believes they are more ready then they are or worse case scenario, the leader has not invested correctly into their team. I also know some people don't always want the next job. We assume they do, when that is our goal, but I have people that would flee if I gave them people to manage. Food for thought. I hope those here that are not being validated and supported can find a way to a leader that will value them and their contributions. I advise, make your manager aware of your ambition, ask for a plan to get there and manage it with them so they cannot dismiss your abilities. Best of Luck.

They're doing stealth promos in TS- no announcements.

Yes that has been going on a while. Look at the CD team, the recent promos were only in the teams where CD is buddies with the director. We all know he has no idea what people do so can’t make a decision himself as to who is deserving ...so he listens to the leaders he likes, those he doesn’t don’t get any promos approved.

Is this anyway to run a business and recognize employees for their contributions?

I’m curious what kind of businesses everyone does on the side maybe it is time I try that
