Short answer - Did you only come into the office on Friday? If so, its always dead on a Friday, all year round. Its a 3 sometimes 4 day workweek for many.Go in on Tuesday-Thursday when people go in to show their face.

You never see Sr. VPs or Executives walk-through any of the buildings like they used to with the last administration. If they did, they would get tougher with the WFH or remote-based employee policies. Very few put in a true 40 hours or more. Its a joke and deeply embarrassing. That's a symptom of absentee VP and Sr. VPs and Execs walking the halls and buildings other than building #1.

Do you have to be in the office to put in 40 hrs or more? I WFH at least one day per week and it is by far my most productive (and longest) work day. Step into the 21st century and reduce your carbon footprint. For example, if what is the point of driving to Cambridge or Weston if I am the only attendee from that site in a meeting with others at either RTP or international sites? Why don't you just do your job instead of watching your cube neighbors and counting their days in the office? The majority of people I work with do not take advantage of the policy since it's a culture of accountability.

WORK TO STANDARD NOT TO TIME

Yeah? Your point? Isn't that accountability? I only mentioned the time because dimwit above seems to think a chair in Weston or Cambridge must be occupied to assure a job is getting done. I'm here to say that is not the case.

I'm curious as to insight on this as I was looking into a job posting. Every place is a train wreck. I get it. But looking into a management position.

So Biogen is truly one of the worst in the industry when it comes to layoffs and “cutting the fat” at the drop of a hat. It truly is a scary time as all our products are either getting old or are facing serious competitors.

Ask around on what happened to IT: move to RTP and take a 20% paycut or get laid off.

That's harsh. Yet we still find the money for stock buybacks.

Attrition rate in R&D as well.

There are questionable department heads who are not qualified based on their actual work experience. It's who you know and not what you know.

Truth: Attention HR: this is why people are leaving in droves especially before the three year mark. Toxic work environment! It is not about the money or vacation time or the idiotic daycare being built at RTP - it is the poor managers who have been employed by Biogen since the beginning. The are have history with their managers and are given positions they are not qualified for. They do not accept change and micromanage. Here is your problem.

Then again, I guess you can justify your jobs with all the new hires and exit interviews.

Exactly. I refuse to fill out another BS survey that is totally ignored or does not fit the narrative.

No clear accountability and 360 feedback to evaluate actual performance of a department head.

place is a joke only the bottom feeders are still there. The real talent has moved on. Those left are inexperienced and only moving up the corporate ladder because those with experience and talent have already left. Look around, has anyone been promoted because they actually deserve it? Easier to promote amateurs than hire real talent.

Definitely spot on. People are dropping like flies in R&D. Leadership and promotions at mid-level and up are largely based upon one’s crafted image, personality and personal brand. That’s all anyone cares about. Other factors include loyalty to VPs stretching back 15 year plus, even at prior companies. Very little emphasis put on talent, skill or drive.

When their stature within the company is based so little on talent or knowledge, they defend to keep their position by viciously going after anyone who is a potential talent threat or can smell a grifter from a mile away. I watched more than a few leave or get pushed out in the last several months because they caught onto the grifter Directors and Sr. Directors. Grifters don’t go after their ‘mark’ first, they go after anyone who they sense can sniff them out and spoil the grift

Does anyone even have a good manager?

These grifters are never accountable for any bad decision they made and find creative ways to avoid paper trails of their incompetence like: 1) discourage employees in carbon copying them in decisions they made so as to make their direct employee making the decision themselves; 2) making direct reports accountable for bad decisions made by former employees in the spirit of "teamwork"; 3) making all other department heads happy to cover their incompetence in leading their own team; 4) blaming a more experienced, more qualified, and more competent direct report for issues arising from the department head's incompetence; 5) not documenting regular and ad-hoc team meeting minutes so that there's no audit trail of bad decisions made by the department head; 6) wants direct reports to resolve issues with internal stakeholders and external FSPs AFTER working hours instead of emails, and 7) making functional service providers happy despite poor KPIs and late deliverables because the department head knows she isn't able to execute things on her own BECAUSE SHE'S CLUELESS and the VP, who hired her despite lack of any past direct experience of at least 10 years for the critical function the team does, had already been let go by Sr. Leadership.

This company is a disgrace. They hired a company paid speaker, who has personal relationships within the community as a sales reps. Her children are on the drug she is selling. This person is also a healthcare professional who solicits patients directly at Birthday parties and other social events, and community support groups she is involved in through her children. She has put 3 pt’s on therapy so far and stands to make quite a monetary gain off the backs of these patients. They trust her and probably have NO idea that she is using them for financial gain. Shame on her and the company. They also encourage reps to ask for pt. Names, birthdates and other Hippa protected information so the patient can be hunted down. They pressure their employees to do unethical things behind the scenes. Despicable!

It isn’t for everyone...obviously not a good fit for you because you likely can’t focus...many people get more done and saved commute time contributes to productivity.
