Can someone inside the industry describe the level of skill/experience it takes to land a job in these various markets? Here is my understanding but can someone correct me if I’m wrong.

    • Primary Care- anyone could do this job. Mostly just dropping off pill samples. Blows my mind people can do this and make over 100k but somehow it happens
    • Generic Injectables- calling on inpatient pharmacies but there is no actual selling or skill involved other than asking whether they have supply of the drug, whether it’s on GPO contract, and what it’s price is. Maybe throw in a rebate or two. Decent pay. Maybe 110-130k based on tenure
    • Specialty Pharma- More seasoned reps try to get items on formulary. Have to have more clinical conversations about the indications for the drug you are promoting. Base salaries are probably higher. Maybe 130-160 at plan?
    • Biologics-similar to speciality but mostly in an outpatient setting where you are calling on rheumatologists or dermatologists. Pays pretty high base salaries. Maybe 130-160 at plan?
