"Merck will close some plants and shed workers as part of a cost-cutting effort over the next several years. Because of the cuts, the company said it expects to take a charge of $800 million to $1.2 billion by the end of 2023." Jim has said he wants to replace talent with more born digital (translation: younger) employees. Good luck to us all!
Merck at least is upfront about its harsh HR practices: hire cheap, treat like garbage, harass & abuse, and fire to meet financials. They are open about their culture, so kudos for that
Amen to that - Merck has always been consistently shitty to employees, especially in IT and Quality; thanking my lucky stars I turned down 3 offers over the last decade form Merck, based upon my rough treatment when I was with Merck as a contractor years ago ... Whew!
I will say this about Merck - the are consistent in how they treat their people - except the VPs who do (as expected) get preferential treatment). Merck does not sell new employees on 'warm & fuzzy' lies like some companies do. Merck says upfront 'we're brutal', and follow through on that promise
not quite... if you see their LinkedIn recruitment BS it has quite a lot of koolaid warm & fuzzy shyte.
Jimmy should be careful! He’s opening up Merck to even more lawsuits: https://fortune.com/2015/05/04/digital-native-employers-bias/
