    Hello all,

I am hoping to get a little insight into this company. I currently work as a rep for one of the largest medical device companies in the world. I have a friend who works for Allergen as a clinical sales rep in their Neuro division which would be the same I would be looking at. Medications for bipolar disorders and migraines. I am a little weary as when I was asking questions to the guy that works for them vs the DM. He tells me that there are no quotas, yet when I asked the DM why the position was open...she said the last rep was underperforming on sales goals. Also the DM told me that the salary would be somewhere between 55k and 70k...probably. To me that is a huge range.....and honestly less than my base now. My biggest fear would be that I leave a great job at a great company for thr promises of super high potential commissions at Allergan o ly to find out that it's not what I expected. Plus the 800lb gorilla in the room.... the Abb vie buy out. What happens to the sales force once they take over? I've been reading g about constant sales lay offs at Allergan. The DM told me not to worry because Abb vie doesn't really have a core sales force, especially with the bag of drugs I would have. I find that super hard to believe.

Can anyone offer any advice here?

Clinical sales rep here. Do not make this move. You will likely get 60-65 if you’re not in California. Lowest base in the industry. And if you do get hired on and layoffs occur you will not get a severance because of your tenure.

If you’re making a bigger base than that now and commission at medical device is usually higher. Why would you ever make this jump?

My advice is do NOT leave your current position.

Forest isn’t known for their pay. Plus a prior rep getting managed out is a red flag.

Except Botox, most Eye care & Vraylar specialty, the rest of us don’t know our future here.

I was considering the move for the possibility of large commissions that may put above what I'm making now. She did say that Vraylar would be in my bag. However, I've read that they will switch your bag up with little or no notice. I've also heard that the sales goals are often unattainable. However, most people in the pharma sales business I've talked to told me to stay away at least untill the acquisition is complete. I was told that if Abb Vie decides to change things up with the sales force that me, with no sales track record being a new hire, would be more likely to be on the chopping block right out of the gate. I appreciate all the honest feedback. I think I will have to hold off for now.

Yes comission for med devices is higher, but we are also expected to be in every case where our product is used. So it becomes kind of a challenge to acquire new business when you're in the OR almost everyday. That I'd another reason I was possibly considering a switch to pharma. At the same time if your surgeon kicks it up a notch, you dont need to acquire new business. Just never know. You guys have given some great advice. Thank you
