Does anyone have experience with the Aetna PPO insurance option? We currently have UHC and lately they have not been covering the most basic of services (annual physical labs: glucose, Lipids, etc). It seems like every visit, we are confused and calling with questions to find out our coverage has changed. We have a baby on the way and I want the best coverage for delivery and newborn care! Thanks!

Not for nothing but isn’t Novo like a big time pharma company? What’s with this petty nickel and dime shit with the bennies? Are you guys that hard up for cash that you have to make the employees dance through hoops just to get some basic coverage? It’s downright embarrassing and makes you look pretty cheap. Why not do the fight thing and reward hard working people some decent benefits to feel like a world class company should be?

I may be wrong, but I think you can only get Aetna in areas that don't have UHC.

If you have an existing condition (like diabetes) then your labs are not covered as preventative. You must pay deductible and coinsurance. That's the same for anywhere.

There are three levels in both the UHC and Aetna options, and the plans are pretty similar in terms of UHC vs Aetna. You may want to check with any existing providers to make sure they take UHC ( certain specialists do not bc of their reimbursements). I have had the UHC plan for years and we have had an excellent overall experience with it, and no issues like those you described. Call up your OB-GYN's office and ask them their thoughts- I'm sure they would be honest with you and I would almost let them pick!

Congrats and best of luck with your new arrival!!

I’ve had Aetna the entire time with no issues. There are no prior authorizations required, you go to any specialist who takes the insurance. We are a family of 5 with an adult daughter who delivered in 18 with a C-section.

Why not print out the benefits and compare the two before making a choice? Coming to CP to see which anonymous person who may or may not actually work here likes which plan seems a little misguided.

That was obviously my first step. The documents online are very broad and ambiguous. I was hoping to get people’s personal experience dealing with both plans. We all know what’s on paper doesn’t always add up to the customer service we actually get.

Aetna has been great, both in terms of covering things, quick authorizations for things like MRIs, and their customer service. CVS/Caremark is also excellent compared to Express Scripts, which I’d had for many years. United’s customer service is lacking—long holds and lots of transferring to get answers. They seem to be much more restrictive in authorizing anything that isn’t standard and commonplace—or anything that’s costly.

I agree with you that the two plans, compared on paper, look identical. We sort of flipped the coin and chose United, happy we did, although we later found one of my wife's specialists didn't accept it. Check first if you have existing Drs but we have had excellent service with United.

This could be the dumbest thread I have ever read or CP.

We have UHC and it’s been an absolute nightmare. No providers in network and even our basic services aren’t covered. None of my doctors take my insurance, and so we are left dealing with sickness on her own or at the CVS minute clinic.

See how dumb it is to ask for information like this on CP? Anyone can say anything, and I think this site is shown that the majority of people have bad intentions. Go do your research somewhere else.
