So now it’s started. Novartis wasted little time before dumping its contract sales team. How many other clients will follow suit? For Merck, AZ, or Sunovion, wouldn’t it be so easy to justify cutting ties to save money?? What happens to Amplity do them? How does the company survive if there’s no customers to partner with??

    Good luck to all!!

These must be really crappy contracts if companies can just break them at anytime. Novartis was supposed to go until July. I think you are right. If companies can get out of them that easy. I don't see any reason other companies paying that overhead for nothing. Novartis is a horrible company with horrible culture. Maybe the other companies are better and value their people more. We will see.

Novartis does value IT’S people, but contract people are expendable, that’s the point of using a CSO

The biggest selling points of utilizing contract organizations are 1. Low cost and 2. The ability to quickly ramp up or ramp down a salesforce.

It looks like this is going carry on onto the summer. I really can’t see Big Pharma carrying any of their CSO teams that far along???

I wonder if they’d clear out some of their own people first, since we cost less per rep????

Get with the program. We dont cost that much less! A good part of our salary goes to mgmt and admin (of the parent contract co). Step 1 - learn and be dialed in. Its contract for any industry.

Contract reps cost more that direct reps. The contract team has lower salaries but there is a middleman essentially that increases the total cost overall. Companies use contract sales forces for a lot of reasons but a big one is you can eliminate the contract and it doesn't impact the stock price.

I've only found two rep positions posted in my area in the past month.

Serious replies only please- what is everyone else finding?

majorly stressed that like in any downturn sales reps for any industry any is one of the first cuts. Now with covid I fear pharma industry might scale back drastically.

If you are looking into different types of jobs outside pharma sales, which area seems to have the most potential?

Look into Account Rep for a trucking company.
You get to wine and dine customers and pay is equal or more than pharma sales.
Similar selling strategy consultative sales with out the pharma bs and restrictions.

The trucking industry is in great pain right now so.... Sounds like someone recommending Pharma Sales: you bring breakfast and lunch to customers and visit then hit the gym or play golf and make Big Bucks! LMAO
