Anyone know how hard Novo fights back on permanent disability claim?

Are you talking about a permanent physical disability that prevents you from performing the key functions of your job, as in driving, walking, speaking, pulling your small rolling cooler, etc.? Can you elaborate a little? Assuming you are in the field, can you transition to an office/hq- based role? I realize there are only a few places for that.

This is only my personal observation. My step daughter was one hell of a good nurse until a head injury made her unable to work. She was then eligible for SS disability income. No where near what she made as a nurse, but it was enough to keep her going. There may be other options than SS, but I can’t think of them now.

If you can’t physically do your job anymore, they have grounds to terminate you. What are you expecting them to fight? If you are permanently disabled, then you draw Social Security. Novo has nothing to do with that.

I have a big crack in my ass that never healed. They did not approve my short term disability. Good luck.

If you’re out for 6 months of STD and still can’t return to work you can move to LTD. It’s not really up to Novo, but Liberty Mutual and your doctor. I’m not sure how long you can remain on long term disability. I’m sure there’s policy information on GlobeShare. Good luck.

long term disability insurance replaces 60-70% of your income at Novo. That's what they're referring to. You probably don't work here or you'd know that.

There’s a difference between permanent disability and LTD. The poster asked about a permanent disability. I guess your answer to a question that wasn’t asked makes you NNI Employee #1. Congrats. But, you can’t go on LTD permanently. Perhaps the poster needs to clarify their question before you start going after folks for their answer.

PS - every company has LTD. Its not unique to NNI.

Actually, permanent disability is a prerequisite for LTD. Thanks for playing.

Are you sure about this? I know of someone who was out for over a year with cancer and returned to work. So, not permanent.

They are incorrect, but sticking to their guns for looking like an ass. By their accord, you apparently draw social security and LTD for the rest of your life. A permanent disability is just that: permanent. You draw social security. LTD picks up where STD drops off, while you are still employed by NNI. But, both only apply when your disability will not permanently keep you out of the workforce. NNI can terminate you if they determine that whatever disability restrictions you have on you will no longer allow you to do your job. And, being your LTD is through the company, you will no longer receive it if you were terminated. Fact.

yes, this is all correct. Also may vary a bit based on your state of residence, so just go to your DBM and HR and follow the protocol. Novo is very good to employees who have issues with this, I know from experience. Best of luck to the OP.

You have to be terminated in order to receive LTD. You're confusing this with critical illness insurance. Different.

    Do better.

Not entirely true. Yes, LTD takes over where STD stops. But, LTD continues even when you leave NNI. Once you go on LTD you are eligible to receive disability pay for 3 years if you can no longer do your own job. After 3 years you continue to receive disability pay as long as you can’t do any job. You do have to apply for SSI, but you still get disability pay. It’s an insurance policy.

Yup. And non terminal cancer is not eligible for LTD, which is why critical illness is offered as another option.
