Amgen oncology is a joke. Amgen is a supportive care company. Kyprolis is a therapeutic being marketed by a bunch former supportive care representatives who only know how to sell on contract. They have no ability to sell on science. Once Amgen got its tentacles on that team it went down hill fast! The managers are horrible and couldn’t sell Kyprolis to the customers if they tried. VG doesn’t know squat about Kyprolis either. Ground yourself in science and you will go far either at another company.

Agree. Amgen Oncology is a joke. Jeff Ludwig left and went to an actual oncology company. The product is a challenge to sell, but it is a true oncology company’s.

The Kyprolis team is the only one at Amgen with no turnover. Shows what you know about it. Not a thing. Another disgruntled employee who was asked to leave.

Haha. Pull your head out of your arse you twit! The Kyprolis team (onyx team, MM team) has the highest turnover in the past 18 months in the OBU. It was the representatives who came over from onyx and launched it who were sales people and knew how to sell a therapeutic (hint: it’s not through the contract; it’s through the science). It also had to do with the leadership that was brought in and ruined the culture of a once great team. Most all of them (except for 2) have left for greener, much greener pastures! Look at the latest report and see how many openings there are and you will contradict yourself in thinking that the MM team has the lowest turnover. SMH at the ineptitude.

Are you new here? That team has almost turned over 100% in four years...even at the DM and ASD level!

Think about that...if Amgen is such a great and desirable place to work for oncology sales professionals why is the turnover so high?

Same for the Blin team. Close to 100% turnover on that sales team since launch.

If you think that doesn’t scream there is a very real turnover issue in the OBU you are crazy, naive, or just out of touch.

So that is the question I will leave you with...if the Amgen OBU is so great why do tenured and successful oncology reps and managers leave in droves?

The MM team has over 100% turnover if you include the multiple times several of the positions have been replaced. There are only two original onyx members left. Most of them went to Rigel and Karyopharm for more money and better culture. The representatives in VA beach, a position in Tenn, one in Florida and one in California have all been replaced multiple times in the last few years. The post that says MM team doesn’t have turnover must be new or is a self serving manager trying to make the MM team look like there is nothing wrong to applicants.

Amgen Oncology sales sucks...yes. But that doesn't mean the rest of the organization in Oncology sucks. I love how you guys literally only are focused on sales. It cracks me up.

And for the record, kyprolis sales team doesn't deserve the blame (and I don't particularly like our sales people), but the blame there falls completely on senior management at the time for not doing the studies and getting the right labels. Kyprolis has terrible lcm

Ok so we agree that the OBU sales team sucks, you added in that OBU senior management did not do a good job...so who is this ‘rest of the organization in Oncology’ who doesn’t suck?

What does suck is the culture in the OBU...hence why the turnover is so high...ya know...the point of this thread. A company does not consistently lose that many people if it is a good and desirable place to work.

They will never answer this question. They are afraid to look under the hood and really discuss the glaring issues that have led to all of the turnover in the OBU. The other poster was accurate. MM and Blin have suffered massive turnover and no one is willing to talk about it here. I’m in HR and senior/executive leadership just buries their heads in the sand and hope it gets better. This place has the potential to be an amazing place to work if only someone would listen and make the changes necessary.

You need to read more closely. I didn't say OBU senior management. Nobody gives a shit about OBU senior management. I'm talking about actual senior management did a bad job with the LCM once it was acquired. Hence the poor ability to sell and compete against velcade and Dara. Both have much much broader labels. OBU senior management...I don't even know who that is and what decisions they make, but they certainly aren't critical ones related to brand strategy. Those are made at the top of the house.

And the rest of the organization in Oncology that doesn't suck? You know we have things like research, development, commercial insights, GPSCI (which has an Oncology sub group), value and access, and basically every function has Oncology specialists. The lack of knowledge of the rest of the organization other than sales here is mind boggling.

No...all those functions you mentioned in the OBU suck too. Who is this mythical ‘actual senior management’ you speak of? Those poor decisions were made within the OBU by BA and TH. It boggles my mind how little you know...

The core of the problem is most people managers throughout the company are inept and solely focused on self interest.

True and well stated. The reason why Amgen OBU is stale and flat is because sales leadership is content just padding their career and making it easy for themselves while collecting stock and bonus for keeping their heads in the sand. What the OBU needs is mire diversity. There needs to be more minority hires and minorities placed in leadership positions in the OBU. AMGEN for a company who tell us they are for social change, you sure don't practice what you preach. Remember, we are all in this together.
