My Manager is notoriously lazy when it comes to reviewing and approving expense reports. I at times had to make advance payments to my AMEX Corporate out of my personal savings to avoid getting dinged with late fees.
I’m almost at the point of calling HR to complain but don’t want to rock the boat. Knowing my Manager’s personality - I’m 100% sure that retaliation would be the next move if I do complain.

Good luck with that. Just shows you the caliber of the Manager’s they hire at Sun.

This is an inherent problem at Sun, especially the past 1-2 years. The company reputation is so poor that their ability to attract any real talent is just about zero.

Reimbursement Delays Results Lowers Retention Rates

Expense reimbursement delays can make employees highly unsatisfied. When delays occur frequently, it frustrates employees forcing them to leave the job. Around 70% of employees have stated they look for a new job when faced constant delays on behalf of the company.

Is your boss lazy or in a subtle way wanting you
to quit your job. Think of it....
Either way I would document every time you submit an expense report and the time it takes for your boss to approve it.
Our T&E guidelines requires Managers to approve expense reports within 5 business days once the report enters the approval queue in Concur Expense.
You get a status notification email once your Manager approves your ER.
If it becomes a pattern that your Manager takes more than 5 days then you can cry foul if push comes to shove.
Sorry - I would not want to be in your shoes with that situation. It’s a bummer having to shell out of your own money to make advance payments to settle your AMEX bill.
If I was in your situation I’d take a one time hit to not make an on-time payment with AMEX so you get late charges. Once that happens charge the late charges with a comment - submitted expense report on time. Late charges is a result of delayed reimbursement.
and approval. It would flag your Manager with the folks at T&E.
I’m sorry you’re going through this shit. Good luck

The problem I have is that after approved it takes weeks to get paid by Sun. I understand my boss has a bunch of things to do and on occasion I have forgotten sign in sheets or receipts. That isn’t the killer for me. It’s Sun taking three weeks from then to pay me. I’m not even sure that is legal. Btw did you know that we are all responsible for those Amex charges? In big Pharma the company is vouching for you. Not at Sun. It’s all on you. If these guys ever BK or stiff you, the one eating a couple grand will be you. Nothing they do is right.

This delay-the-pay is right in line with Sun’s squeeze-every-rupee out of the system mentality.
Sketchy business practices through and through.

OP here well my Manager stepped up a notch - now going on 2 weeks since I submitted my report and still is pending. Now I’ve got another one to submit. Found out from another Manager that my Manager when he was still a Rep was delinquent in submitting ERs.
Some people’s habits never change. As a Manager now delinquent in approving subordinates expenses.

The card is in your name, so if you pay late, your credit score takes a hit.
Do not play games with that card as someone else has suggested.
Did you speak to your manager directly?
That is the only way you can get a sense if something will be done about the charges being paid late. Reporting him to his manager will create a hostile work environment for you and he will look for reasons to terminate you.

OP here - got you my Manager may be wanting me to quit. Well guess what - I lucked out - I don’t have to deal with this shit anymore. I’ve been looking to get out & I just got a job offer with another company this morning. Stoked to be leaving this shit show once my background check clears in a week. Been a clown show for the past two years I’ve been here.

The T&E Guidelines are a joke. My Manager approves Expense Reports depending on his whim. Fastest it took for him to approve a report was 3 days after submission, most of the time it varies between 10 - 15 days. So most of the time I end up making advance payments on my credit card bills so that my credit is not affected. It sucks - but I choose not to fight this battle or complain as I know I’m at the loosing end. I guess if the T&E guidelines were strictly implemented my boss would be on the delinquent list and get reprimanded. Not happening -

You need to work for Novartis. They have a corporate Amex card. They also would fire you for having a discussion such as this. You whinny snowflakes believe you are entitled to be employed for which the greater portion of you has not shown any aptitude to hard work. I am a gen x and I am constantly appalled by your generation.
