Lab/Telemed Needed for CGX PGX Samples

The arrests were massive fraud, millions of dollars..not cause a mlm went to telemedicine..which ironically is in play now. One can have a test done and have results understood by a genetic counselor. The testing is amazing...but drs dont know about it.

 

Any lab owner thinking that they are not going to get into trouble doing telemedicine with CGX or any genetic testing is dumb. The feds have already said that the provider has to have an ongoing relationship with the patient because they do not cover screening tests and that it is fraud to bill for screening tests. Before COVID-19 there were regulations in place over where a patient lived as to whether or not it was even legit to cover that patient because they felt it was only rural patients that needed telemedicine. The very important thing to remember about CMS is that the have the ability to go back and say that something was not legal feel after the fact and claw that money back like they did to all the labs in the Novitas MAC who got suspended for billing CMS on CGX for patients who had a family history rather than a personal history. Another important factor is that the rumor is that CMS is going to crack down on labs billing for CGX if it is for genes unrelated to the personal history. Basically even though I think it is stupid CMS seems to think that the lab should only look at breast cancer if that's what the patient previously had and not any other types of cancer and so on. This would greatly reduce the amount of reimbursement to the lab and thus the appeal to reps and marketing companies.
