I have been here for 2 decades. I thought I had seen the worst of leadership last year. They somehow manage to lower the bar to the floor lately. Is it just me? What is wrong with these people? Please comment.

No, it is not you. Yes, it can and will get worse.

With the pandemic it has become all about engagement. People have to look busy.

It speaks volumes when people who fought so hard to stay here, networking and sucking up to people they thought would be HDs, are now leaving WITHOUT a severance. They just want to get the f*%& out!

It’s already worse. So many people who fought to stay here, sucked up to those they thought would be in leadership, are now leaving WITHOUT a severance because they just want to get the f*%& out!

No one wants to tie themselves or their career to this disaster.

I joined another large biotech after being kicked to the curb since my independent "mindset" was not a "right fit" for the SSF cult. I can tell you that Genentech is now a liability in your resume after July. What I am telling you may offend you since many of you are very good and talented people. But every company is now aware of the crap at DNA and the kind of people they retained for the ecosystems. My NSD told me a couple weeks ago that he would never touch these Genentech leftovers with a 10-foot pole. He sarcastically said that "these robots and suck-ups don't have the right mindset for the real world".

We may be working for the same company! My boss got some resumes from some Genentech HD's and asked me what that position really was. I tried to explain to her and saw that puzzled look on her face. She thought I was pulling her chain. Honestly I really couldn't describe to her what they do if my life was depending on it. I don't think they could describe themselves either.

Everyone I speak with locally laugh at Genentech. A lot more of them shake their head in disbelief. Most positions in Genentech are just fancy titles to their over glorified positions. A lot of them just sit at a desk looking at the screen. No need for fancy titles for this kind of work.

I was at Genentech post Roche merger and was there for 10 years. Fortunately I saw the writing on the wall and left on my own before the layers of restructuring took place and landed with a much more enjoyable field role. When the name Genentech comes up, I try to avoid discussing that I was once there. No pride

Unfortunately GNE left a long time ago. When the scientists left it was a ripple effect.
Herb Boyer and Bob Swanson were geniuses in my mind....I loved working there. Thought my career would end there but it did not. Took my package and used my network to get hired again with another good company. There is life after Genentech. The roles that they kept adding with no thought about the sustainability was a fiasco. WTF does a BAM, BEM do? Fake job....WTF does an FRM do? Pretends to be busy with nonsense....none of the roles moved the needle in revenue. Reps did everything and it should have remained that way as they are the front line to customers. Can you even imagine being a customer and requesting something and you have to punt it to 4 other wheelhouses. shameful. Sales is customer interfacing and should be the priority. I hope everyone that is there finds a spot wherever their skills takes them.

My story exactly and glad yours ended happily too. But did it have to end this way? Not what Bob & Herb envisioned.

Genentech said “other companies will be watching how we do this.” Since Novartis is following, they could be right to some extent. Contracting directly with accounts is their main goal. Sales will flow after that is executed...no need for sales people, but rather, only “customer service” people.

No other company is watching what we are doing. At this point no one cares.

No one has, or ever will, watch how Genentech does anything. We are the legend in our own mind(set). Our marketing sucks and everyone knows it in our industry. We were only known for our science and arrogance. Thanks to Roche and now science is long gone. I guess arrogance is all we have.

The only people watching this cluster are our competitors so they can hammer the last nail in our coffin.

And they're doing a good job of it especially biosimilars.
