How is the new CIO Marc doing? He sure talks up a storm about transformation, but in his first year, how much has he got done?

Inclusion usually only gets you the job/promotion you are under qualified for - when you are under qualified and fail, it catches up to you

Well the Old CIO Mark H was from Merck - Merck is one of the nastiest places in all of pharma - which probably scarred him for life.

Is the New CIO Marc B any better? He seems determined to move all of IT to Raleigh, NC (where he grew up)

Ouch! Painful but true - ultimatley, you have to perform in your role (regardless of your diversity status), especially at that high Exec level - or you will be exited (with a huge golden parachute no doubt).

Marc B has minimal healthcare experience (he is from IBM & HP). Met him a couple of times and he is nice enough but in way over his head. The GxP regs are interfering with his 'fast-track' IT plans.

In order for Marc B (new CIO) to get anything done to transform IT, he has to exit all of the old timer IT 'leaders' who were more fit for when Gilead was a small & fast-growing startup. They got promoted way above their abilities and now are desperately trying to hang on - since no one will pay them what Gilead pays them (as Sr Dir, Exec Dir levels).

Their best bet to survive the coming purge is to block any sharp new hires Marc wants to bring in and delay all of his 7-9 initiatives ...

Result? Gilead's much-needed IT Transformation is stalled before it begins ...

13 Gilead IT 'Leaders' applied for openings on my ITLT at a global device company - my interview panel rejected every one of them because they were 'not technically competent, tried to BS around key questions, and bragged as if they signle-handedly built up Gilead'.

At this point, I have asked my TA Head to blacklist all applicants from Gilead IT.

Ditto my experience with Gilead QA leaders, especially Tom M (Exec Dir Quality with Gilead) who was deemed unfit to lead QA by the FDA at his last gig in Watson Pharma.
