What is leadership? This seems to be a very common question in the business world and simply stating that your direct supervisor or manager is your leader is a very farfetched statement. When I view what a leader is, a leader is someone that whole heartedly wants you to succeed, someone that will take time out of their day to help you overcome current obstacles while finding ways to avoid others in the future. A leader is someone that understands that mistakes can be made due to human error and is approachable in these scenarios. Situational awareness makes for a strong leader that can adapt to any environment and situation and working with their team members, not against them. They also have ethics of teaching (Flannery, 2021) to make sure they are helping you be successful, I have had many personal experiences with healthcare and unfortunately not positive ones. I have spoken with many practitioners who do not think administration is on their side, that they call the shots regardless of how it impacts the clinical side, I feel as this is a big reason I want to be in admin. I have worked hands on as an EMT and saw my administration put things into play because they wanted to, not because it benefitted the employees. My thoughts behind healthcare administration is to get everyone on the same team and have an all hands meeting to get thoughts of the practitioners that will be affected and come to an agreement that way versus just doing something because I can. There are many traits a leader should have to name a few, competence, assertiveness (Napier, 2016), communicative, honest, understanding, team focused. These traits are usually demonstrated daily by this leader, think of someone you consider a leader, do they have these traits?

Leaders should use effective communication to make sure everyone understands the same thing, one of the effective exercises in developing skills of an authentic leader is have meeting with the team and use it as a open floor. Have team members give you feedback on what they would like from you and how you can help them with necessary work restraints. If I were the leader, I would want them to know that I am there for them and please don’t hesitate to come speak with me. Leaders shouldn’t be feared. This type of exercise is beneficial as it allows everyone on the team to put everything out there without a worry of being in trouble. It also helps everyone be honest and forthcoming if there is an issue and that the leader is there to assist you in getting through whatever issue faces with within the workplace. Some say leaders are born, not made. I feel like leaders can also be made with commitment and desire.

You are posting in the wrong forum.

There cannot be leaders in a corrupt industry like pharmaceutical/medical/healthcare/biotech sales.
