It’s a lot easier than talking PCPs into using specialty drugs.

Why do the children right out of school think they should be paid the same as someone who has been in the role for 10 plus years? Just because you call on the same customers doesn’t mean the salaries are the same. Even if you have been in the industry but we’re primary care doesn’t mean you should get the same increase either. You have to work for it and earn it like we all did. And not for a year.

When you were hired as a specialty sales person were you hired in at the specialty pay range? Right at the beginning or after 10 years?
Oh, and if we are counting years of experience, most of my former PCP team was very experienced, as am I. I’m fine with paying for years of experience, as long as we are all within the range they advertise to pay for this position.

No, I wasn’t. I was given a small % increase on the base salary from my previous company when I was hired 10 years ago and it was at the lowest end of the sales specialist grade band. There was no negotiating with the recruiters either, it was take it or leave it and I wanted the job so I took it. I was doing the same damn job as others in the same role and was paid less because of where I came from. I have had to fight for step level increases with solid performance, not because of a title change The company has come a long way with salaries since then as well as pay transparency. We are all not equal. Novartis also compensates higher for the level of education you have.

Then they should step it up. No one on this thread said everyone should be paid equal. The point is that they claim to pay all reps doing this job within a certain range and that we should all be in that range. Sure sounds to me like you were in the “lowest end of the sales specialist grade band” and the point of this thread is that many of us aren’t in the grade band…..so yes, sounds like you were put in that grade band, but don’t think your colleagues should be. Classy.

I do think it’s BS to not be in your positions posted salary band at all. Totally demotivating to be below a posted salary range. The salary bands are huge as is. To have a coworker making $30,000, $40,000 or whatever more than you doing the same job is odd. The job isn’t that hard or complex to have that much discrepancy.

That’s what this whole thread is about. Everyone who was formerly PCP are making significantly less than the posted minimum in the band. We should at least be paid the minimum and should probably get some other considerations for experience. Or, are they trying to cause attrition and save themselves having to pay severence? Whether you like it or not, we are all specialty reps on our resumes now, so they either put us in the specialty band or we can easily find another company to pay us specialty salaries. Most of us wanted the severence anyway. I’m trying to convince myself I’m happy to move forward with the company, but the incessant field rides, metrics, and not even being paid the posted minimum for my job are making that pretty tough.

Everything the “leaders” say is a lie. If you are dumb enough to think they believe in your work enough to compensate you whatever you deem as fair then you are not living reality and should seek help.

We all know we are all working in noncompliance every day to cover Duane’s ass. it’s a matter of time before the next cuts start. 15 years here I have never seen so many people so angry.
Duane’s goal is attrition. When he says - thank you, he mean F you. “But they said they are rerecruiting” Pay attention to what is actual happening. Why is it taking so long to fill open positions? Why is it taking so long to post open positions? Why are the ADSARs in flux. Duane, Jeff, Sandeep signed off on this master plan and they are going to die on that hill. Why are we forced to make 6 targeted calls a day when the target potential isn’t accurate? Try asking a logical question and see what happens. They are obsessed with targets because it’s how they are justifying the success of the change. Did you notice that business rules were never explained clearly? Why do they need such a high level of legal protection and business rules if everything is ethical and compliant? I was lucky enough to sit in on leader calls during the last reorg. Duane’s management philosophy is to stay quiet for 8-12 weeks and then “crack the whip”

Cleary Novartis’ goal is to not pay people and continue to have reps outside of the lower end of the salary band. Given that, you would think they would just lower the bottom of the posted salary band. This company is so stupid. Lower the band range to include the lower reps salary, then the reps wouldn’t have anything to be disgruntled about other than knowing they are being screwed. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but clearly Novartis doesn’t even care to make it look legit. They are just so pathetic.

What do you mean we are all working in noncompliance every day?

Honest and thoughtful feedback based on experience and common sense. This is what Novartis doesn’t want from its people. I’ve never seen such a disastrous situation in my career. What was done to the CV division over the past few years is nothing short of criminal. The more you think for yourself, the more of a threat you are perceived by management. They want drones, not problem solvers. Get out as soon as you can. The writing is on the wall. No one should be treated like this.

It’s not just CV it’s all over the company in many divisions. We aren’t trusted and are micro managed to death.

I’ve definitely not seen sales reps boo their leader and walk out on a general session. That was one of the most shocking moments I’ve ever seen in pharma. Here we are 6 months later and same leadership team has done absolutely nothing to fix that culture, but have added to the negativity instead.

The range already has a $60,000 spread and those who were PCP still aren’t even being paid at the bottom of that range, so lots of people have a partner, doing the exact same job, making 70-80K more.

If reps aren’t happy with their pay, they should have negotiated better. You all agreed to accept the job at your given salary. You are free to look elsewhere if you think you are underpaid.

Thus the need to LEAVE! Sadly Corporate America makes it this way, esp Novartis.

Instead of rewarding internal people, and avoiding the cycle of recruit/hire/train, they just don't give a F about you.

    Thanks for your approval, dickhead.
I hope Novartis enjoys the expense of on-boarding new reps (hotels, flights, food, getting them a car, 4-6 months with the spot sitting vacant) because they wouldn't give their existing rep a $15k raise.
It's stupid, wasteful and counterproductive, which is exactly why you can be sure Novartis will eschew reasonable raises.

Yes, most of us are. We now have specialty sales on our resume, but aren’t making specialty pay. I’m a producer and my area will miss me with that area goal looming. I’d rather Novartis just pay me within their own range for the job title I have than have to move on, so Novartis needs to address this particular elephant in the room.
