Why would J&J buy it? They have the same product lines as merck. The SEC would make them sell off duplicate products to keep the playing field fair (no monopolies).

Prez of Consumer division is ex-JnJ exec.

There will still be plenty of competition, FTC will not oppose the sale.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to buy Vertex.

It will not be enough. It would take about 30-40 Billion to buy that Gem. I wish we could.

Sell CH for 4B. It represents about 10% of the total Schering price.

Use the 4B for Merck stock buy-backs - has a bigger impact on share price than any Consumer division contribution to profits. What ever profits consumer makes is so miniscule to Merck its will never show up anyway.

Proceeds from Consumer sale will be used to by a fleet of helicopters. New division formed to provide helicopter transportation to New Jersey executives.

Yeah, and it was complete speculation that Fast Freddy would sell SP to Merck too.

Gonna happen, just not sure when.

If Merck doesn't get some drugs approved, the entire damn company, facilities, equipment, IP will be sold off.

The animal and consumer divisions generate a steady cash flow that should be used to keep Mother Merck afloat.

You don't get it. This whole management plan is a huge bet. They will be using the3 money generated from the sales or spin offs of CC and/or AH to buy molecules that could pay off bigger than what they cost to buy.

Huge gamble, huge risks but potentially huge rewards. It's the basic nature of drug discovery Merck just lost their mojo. They need that cash burst to get it back.

Merck has tons of cash on the books, plus they can sell bonds and raise cash as they have been doing. They don't need to spin off divisions to raise cash.

But they are just stay tuned. There are more facts than rumors on this site now because so few feel safe in their position so why not spill the beans anonymously? Nay sayers are the new fools.
