Question Low testosterone . . . aarrgghh!!

I am a 49 yo female and suddenly have no energy.

I am so lethargic it is like my energy fell off a cliff. I normally exercise 4-5 days a week, but now it takes every bit of energy I have to go to work, and take care of husband and kids. I cannot make it to the gym, I am just too tired to move.

I went to my endo and he did the blood work up and determined I am going thru menopause (yippee) but I have nearly no free testosterone in my system. I did a little research and it seems this could be the cause as I also have a few other symptoms -- splitting nails, no muscle tone despite the constant working out and weight lifting. The other energy robbing situation could be anemia. Does anemia make you this tired?

My question is the solution. My endo talked about monthly testosterone shots but good Lord the side effects can be awful -- acne, permanently lowered voice, hair loss. Who wants that?

Does anyone know of any natural methods to encourage testosterone production? Has anyone had these shots and know the pros and cons?

Thanks in advance for your answer --

I heard that in time of war during combat operations that soldiers testosterone increase.

Joining the army might be one natural option.

Good luck.

Forget all that natural crap. Call your MD and ask for a prescription of estratest HS. If that doesn't work, then go for the full strength.

It has estrogen AND testosterone (just enough to energize the libido) and because of the estrogen, your bones won't suffer from menopause.

I've been taking it for 6 years. No side effects, and lots of libido.

Libido is not necessarily a good thing. It gets lots of people into lots of trouble. The grass is not greener on the other side. Libido = problems. Count you blessings.

Why do you think old men are much more peaceful and content than young guys?

The best years of ones life are usually in the 55-70 age range when libido wanes.

Wake up.

My D.O. put me on bioidentical testosterone cream. She wants female levels around 50 but mine was about 17. I get blood testing every 3 months. BTW, I am also a 49 y/o female and I also take compounded bioidentical progesterone, but no estrogen yet. If you go to the Life Extension website, you can read articles with clinical trial references. If you are a drug rep, you will appreciate the science. www.lef.org

This is so true. Life is so much better when you don't worry about all the sex stuff. There is a lot more to life than sex.

Oh come on! Male or female, at least keep on top of your hormone levels. Supplement with bio-identicals with the help of a good longevity specialist. It gives your life a whole different level of satisfaction, it doesn't turn you into a raging teenager. You sleep better, have more energy and sense of well being and a better outlook on life. Check your thyroid levels and Vit D absorption. It's not all about sex but when once you feel more balanced your outlook changes. Progesterone and estrogen can help build testosterone. There are a lot of options out there. It's cutting edge and not the new hype. Don't get stuck in western pharma. Just make your body feel more youthful and better and everything else will eventually follow along. Don't give up on your sexuality. That doesn't have to be the end goal but can be spectacular if you go along with the program.

Last time I reviewed literature on Bioidentical hormone therapy (BHT) there wasn't a lot of strong evidence in the literature to support its use. I'm not opposed to it but I had a patient spend tons of money for nothing with an anti-aging OB/gyn. I think improvements on treatment are likely placebo effect.

Since you doctor only did a blood test, he only saw the bound hormones and not the free hormones. You are best off doing a saliva test where multiple points can be seen not just a snapshot. Once you have the results I would see a compounding pharmacist. They can offer a lot of solutions other than shots.

No, none of this was me. But I feel as shitty as the OP and need to check out something. I doubt anything will help my bipolar personality. . . but you never know. A goodnight's sleep might do wonders after basically three years of only sleeping about three hours a night. I feel like shit and how can I live up to my "name" if I have no sex drive?

So, any of you other posters try something that works for women? I am less concerned with the sex drive than I am the complete lack of energy to do anything anymore. It is impacting all aspects of my life.

THERE'S BIG NEWS!!!!!!!!!!

Now, there's Androgel 1.62%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of all the patent extending bullshit drugs on the market, this one takes the prize.

OP, have you had your thyroid levels checked? They can get wacked at midlife when all of the other hormones are also out of balance. How about B12? I once worked for a metabolic and nutritional doctor who swore by B12 shots to improve fatigue and cognitive impairment. He wanted blood levels up around 10,000pg/ml. I take 2000mcg of methyl B and folate p.o. every day and it makes a huge difference.

Low test. is not just about sex, but maintaining healthy organs.

Either way, I totally agree with you about sex. The American culture is totally sex crazy, thanks to a socialist media that wants everyone to be mediore and obsessed with it, so they will be easier to control.

Chew on that for a few years, and you will learn about life.

Wait until you have to take testosterone. The lower concentration products require that you put more on. It then does not dry as well and comes off on your t-shirt. If you read the patient boards, most are doing better on this concentration level. I prefer the application of Axiron, but will probably switch to the Androgel 1.62 to get the better levels.

Agree. I have been on testosterone therapy for 2 months and I feel like a new person. Less fatigue, my weight is improving and that mental fog is clearing up. I just wish I started this a year or two ago.
