I was contacted by a headhunter 2 yrs ago about an opening in this region. A simple google search on this manager Michael Kammerman made me run from this region. Looks like this guy drove a 30 million company in the ground. Very shady!!

Since Warranty Gold filed for bankruptcy Nov. 11, little has changed for those who bought a service contract before June 7:

The contracts are still virtually worthless.

Thousands of people across the nation who bought contracts that were supposed to help them replace their car ignitions or rebuild their SUV transmissions - contracts that were supposed to be good for years - now can't get repair claims or refunds paid.

The insolvency and subsequent liquidation of Lincoln's National Warranty Insurance Group has rippled through its risk retention group members - most obviously Warranty Gold, which sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors.

In that bankruptcy filing, Warranty Gold said it had $30 million in debt and $7.7 million in assets.

Warranty Gold hints that customers could be reimbursed for repair bills. But it gives no concrete deadline for when that might happen.

Despite its bankruptcy filing, the company's Web site continues to tout itself to prospective buyers as the No. 1 online marketer of affordable, extended service contracts.

"Come and see what makes us different and how you can save as much as 60% off dealership plans by direct purchasing," the Web site says.

Other Web sites, run by frustrated customers, tell a far different and incendiary tale.

Some customers, such as Daphne Chang, are getting creative to get their money back.

Chang, of Cambridge, Mass., got her credit card company to help.

Lisa Deptula of Odessa, Fla., got so mad she called the Warranty Gold president at home.

Both women say the Austin, Texas-based company refused to cover their car repairs, even though both owned Diamond extended service contracts.

They owned three of the roughly 60,000 contracts sold before June 7 by Warranty Gold, said Tim Herman, an attorney and a director of the company.

None of these contracts is being honored, he said, because National Warranty Insurance Group is being liquidated.

Warranty Gold had sent National Warranty, a risk retention group, a lot of money to use for claims.

Now, Herman said, "We're totally dependent on the liquidators to distribute the assets."

Chang, a 34-year-old engineer, wanted some of those assets.

She had to fork over $1,800 for repairs to her 2000 Volvo S40 - repairs, she said, that should have been covered by a $1,664 Warranty Gold contract that she had billed to her Visa account.

So Chang called Visa and asked that the contract charges be reversed, given that she couldn't count on coverage.

Visa wiped them off her bill, she said.

Warranty Gold is fighting attempts by other customers to do the same, Herman said, because of the bankruptcy proceedings.

Chang was shocked to learn Warranty Gold continues to sell extended service contracts, and more so to learn that some contract holders aren't having any problems getting their vehicle repairs paid.

How can Warranty Gold do this?

Contracts bought after June 7 are not administered by National Warranty, Herman said.

First Automotive Service Corp. of Albuquerque, N.M., a risk retention group affiliated with an insurance company, is responsible for payments on those contracts, he said.

Roughly 2,000 contracts were administered by First Automotive.

    But problems continue to surface.

Last week, a Texas judge ordered First Automotive to stop dealing in service contracts in Texas, saying it didn't have the financial backing to meet its obligations.

A few days later, Warranty Gold surrendered its license to operate in Texas.

Using funds administered by the new risk retention group to pay customers who bought their contracts before June 7 would be illegal, Herman said.

He said Warranty Gold is totally dependent and must wait on the Cayman Islands liquidators.

Those arguments aren't working in Washington state, where the Department of Insurance has fielded dozens of complaints about marketers associated with National Warranty, including Warranty Gold.

"Even though the marketer might claim that there's nothing they can do because National Warranty is (insolvent), that marketer is still legally obligated to uphold the terms of the contract," said spokeswoman Sandi Peck. "Customers should not take the marketer's word that there's nothing they can do because National Warranty is (insolvent).

"The marketer cannot foist off their legal responsibility," Peck said.

Deptula, a mother of three, agrees with Peck that Warranty Gold is wrong to shift the blame.

"They knew and they didn't do anything," she said. "And now they're saying they're doing everything they can."

She paid nearly $2,500 for service contracts on her 2000 Ford Windstar and her husband's 1999 Daewoo Leganza. After getting stuck with more than $2,000 worth of repair bills she saysshould have been covered, she wanted answers.

She wasn't getting any despite repeated phone calls to Warranty Gold offices.

So, on the Web, she tracked down the home phone number of the Warranty Gold president, Michael Kammerman.

    And she called him.

He was furious she had called him at home, Deptula said.

He said he'd call her in a few days, after he cooled down. He never called, she said.

Deptula says Kammerman's company has a responsibility to make good on the contracts.

"They should be covering claims, because that's who we purchased it from,"she said.

She is going through the steps Warranty Gold established to try to get money, but she thinks they're a waste of time.

She has since gotten rid of both cars.

Sad course of events continue to occur in this DC region. The area director and VP of sales are to blame for not seeing the wool being pulled over their heads by the regional manager mike kammerman. 2 good reps just resigned with more to come in the coming months. This has been going on for years yet leaders cannot put 1 and 18 together. This guy treats his people like they're 2 & word is doctors can't stand him.
Duhh...when scores of reps leave it raises red flags on the mgr. Funny how the solution is so simple yet senior managers are clueless and out of touch. Pick up the phone & talk to thee troops. Laughable situation.
