ASR promotion question

    I have an opportunity to become an ASR in Joint Preservation. My question is that IF I am able to get promoted to a sales rep position, do I have to stay in JP or would I have an opportunity to get into a different division? Say ortho or one of the other more lucrative divisions?

    Input is greatly appreciated!

    Stryker is known for promoting from within and yes, you would be able to transfer to a different division. I know numerous reps who have moved from Nav to Spine or Comm to Ortho. The question you should be asking yourself is if you are willing to do whatever it takes if offered a position. Stryker looks damn good on a resume and would basically give you a springboard to move to any division your interested in or any other medical device company in the country. My advice is do whatever you can to land the position and bust ass!

    Help, this poster needs help! I think they are drowning on "company Juice" or "The Stryker Blue Pill" is caught their throat and their brain is short of ......!!!

    I worked at Stryker for 6 yrs. they generally frown upon switching between divisions, but it could be done. My advice would be keep your head low, kiss alot of ass, network like hell & prove yourself. The JP Division is the red-headed step child in Ortho, but if you apply yourself & do well, you might be considered for the lateral move.

    More lucrative? Let's think about it. You get started with a base pay of $50,000.00 and no sales quota to hit. Then you advance to Orthopaedic joint sales and get a sales quota and you get 6% pay commission for sales with an adjustable quota. Hmmmmmm, $1,000,000.00 in sales will get you a gross pay of $60,000.00 a year before taxes an other deductions.

    The question I would ask is will Stryker let sales reps keep sales territories over $1,500,000.00 in sales before splitting it up?

    Don't forget, no expenses so youre paying for everything out of pocket!!!! Assuming you pay somewhere between $13-16k/yr in gas, tolls, parking & cell phone, that leaves you w/ approximately $27,000 NET after you figure 30% comes out of the $60k for taxes. Go get 'em tiger

    I'm interested in why there is all this Stryker hating going on. I know 3 current Stryker reps that are doing very very well. Multiple 6 figures. Why do I know 3 guys who are very happy and bringing home serious paychecks, but all I'm reading is how Stryker reps get paid squat?

    I am a spine rep with Stryker and can say that myself along with just about every other rep that I know in spine or other divisions are very happy. All of the negative comments you are reading are from people who either were denied a job, competition, or got the job and couldn't cut it. An ASR is not going to start at $100K with Stryker or any other company, but if your willing to work and not bitch about pay and go out and take advantage of the opportunity that has been given to you then it can be very rewarding.

    Would and ASR promotion to sales rep likely require relocation? I suspect the answer would be yes, but any feedback would be much appreciated.

    The following post from a different thread in the Stryker forum put the typical day of a Stryker rep;

    "Day to do day duties.. you get up hungover, beer bong your coffee, followed up by shooting 1cc of test with deca, then you head out to the hosp, park your 93' tercel in the surgeons spot, head up to the lounge wait for a case to start, flip some boxes and trays, plant your seed with the old as dust doc, he cuts you lose, you head over to the maternity level to check out some of the talent there, maybe score a few numbers , pinch a loaf in the on the way out of the center, its about 2pm now.. get to your whip (if its still there) toss the ticket and ignore the rent a cop yelling for your business card/ID...peel off, make your preworkout on the way to the gym. knockout some chest, curls in the squat rack & some selfies. As you slam your whey protein shake, thinking youre in the clear for the day, pager buzzes and they need you back for a tibial fracture. You close the new hire peon whos on his 27th case of the day to cover u with the promise of some cold 6packs with some basic 5s all just in time for happy hour!"

    Yes, this describes a typical Stryker rep, but please don't lump the rest of the professional companies/industry with this guy/gal

    Why is it that some ASRs gets expenses/car allowance, and some don't?

    Are the benefits decent with ASRs? Vacation time?

    Hey, if there is 0 vacation time, then that's what it is. I'm just wondering if there is any is all. I can deal with it since I'm a workaholic.

    this is false, i started pretty close to 100 as an asr. if you are good there is money on the table.

    I just got an offer for a position as a procare specialist with the goal of trying to obtain an ASR job either with Stryker or another company. I have been told that its not likely to happen and also that if I work hard enough there's still a chance since having work experience with Stryker looks great on a resume. I'm in the process of weighing out my options but wondering if anyone has any extra input for me?!

    good thing im not trying to convince anyone. thats what i made, believe it or not. granted it was a major metro area with a lot of business, but i negotiated hard. there was no way i was taking the flat 60 or 70k, screw that.
