If you aren't looking for a job outside of pharma, then you are out of your damn mind

The databases of the contract companies (Quintiles, Publicis, ect) are completely bloated with ex-senior reps fighting over $55-$60K jobs.

Don't be one of them. You will be at the back of the line

You are correct. I am one of them and it's not the place you want to be.

I'm working a master plan to get out. I need 5-6 years though. Fingers crossed.

Do something fun; not pharma, something where there are no studies, no tests, no dm's on your back and go to a small company not these huge corporation where it does not matter what you know but who you know.

"Fun" doesn't pay the bills, or for the house on the Lake.

Getting 5-6 years in Pfizer is a stretch. You and I could be flushed away tomorrow..........

OP, you are 1,000 % correct.

There are better industries with normal people, and the pay is as good in most cases.

Pharma stopped being a good industry in the early 2000s, and we don't have to repeat the reasons, but the Barbie doll has a lot to do with it.

This is nothing new to any rep with half a brain..salaries for reps have peaked and going down..anybody in corporate world should be looking after 3-4 years.

The title of this post says it all!

If you are not looking...then it is your own fault.

You have GOT to see the handwriting on the wall!

Unless you are currently making less than 70,000, you probably won't get 5 years. The industry trend is to do away with full-time field force, and swap out with a contract force. I've heard some big consulting firms pitching multi-million dollar "non-personal promotion" sales and marketing strategies. I know for a fact that many ACOs will forbid us from touching their constituency starting 2015. It looks like health plans and large integrated systems are going to follow the lead of colleagues in parts of Minnesota, Tennessee, Mass., Vermont, and northern California.

Ask your friends what access is like in Boston clinics and hospitals, or the Mayo Clinic. We (full-timers) are going the way of the dinosaur. Please don't get caught unawares.

Its hilarious how our Pfizer DM's COMPLETELY ignore these realities, and keep telling us how Pfizer is a great place to work. Our RM instructs her DM's to keep these touchy feely, Mary Poppins type discussions flowing with all of the reps, in an attempt to completely shield people from these realities.

Are the managers really this out of touch with reality?

It was a damn good ride - 100K+ for 20 hours of work a week all those years. In only 10 years time every sales force in the industry will be 100% contract and they won't believe how good we used to have it!

It was a good ride. Cant say often or enough how much more marketable you are when you have a job. It shows planning, foresight and initiative to look before Pfizer dumps you.

Nothing more sullen and disheartening than someone who "just held on for the package" and drags their sorry ass into a job interview 3-6 months later. I wouldn't wast 5 minutes interviewing someone like that

Income for reps have been going down (in real dollar terms) for years....wait for Sunshine Act to hit (doc's will enjoy explaining how they 'made' $30,000 in lunch money to their pts - who now have to pay with Their money with those Obamacare $5000 deductible plans---we won't be able to give away a Hot Krispy Kreame D'nut to the receptionist soon

Nobody gives a shit about the corruption going on in our federal government, why should they give 2 shits about drug companies feeding lunches and snacks to doctors? Only the overreacting doctors care.

Holding on for $150,000-$200,000 package is OK if you have something solid that you're already working on. I know too many that held on for that package, took the $170,000, and then took 10 months to land a job to work at (drum roll please) a 1 year contract (PDI or Publicis) for a drug that is 2 years away from LOE.

Offices are closing left and right because of this. Not just the large health systems either. Most 1 doc practices are shutting dorrs to reps as well. Kind of hard to justify people in suits walking by patients with Olive Garden and Applebees bags everyday.

Back in the 90s it was fine. People used to give me a good natured ribbing when I brought lunch in. Now, people are viciously making remarks. Today, more people are poor than ever before in this country. The guys in their 50's that used to crack Viagra jokes when they worked in manufacturing and had benefits are now poor old people on fixed incomes. Its not as funny anymore

It's true there are more poor people than ever and income inequity gets larger and larger. Wages and benefits keep going down while corporate profits keep going up. We're seeing it ourselves - secure 100K+ jobs being replaced by temporary 50K contract ones.

It's pathetic that the billionaire Koch Brothers can so easily get Americans to vote for the Republicans, the party that has spent the last 30 years funneling money out of our pockets into the pockets of the One Percent. The extreme policies of the GOP make them our equivalent of the Taliban. Natural selection I guess. Smart people don't vote themselves into poverty.........
