    Really!

This free market stuff isn't fair. The gubmint should be in charge and make it fair.

So what's going to happen to the pharma reps when that happens? Why should you get a car, lunch every day, big salary and benefits, etc. etc. because you're nice looking and well spoken?

WE NEED THE GOVERNMENT TO CONTROL EVERYTHING!! That's why we have big tax rates and $17 T and counting in debt!! Those guys in Washington have it figured out, will you pulesae wake up people!!

Interesting. Penalizing private businesses for acting in self interest and shareholder interest. Ironic, because govt pension funds are some if th lsrgest holders of AZ and Pfizer stock. As much as they vilify big pharma, their pension fund managers know the industry makes good ROI. Obama and peeps don't know how to make an economy grow, so theyvtryvto stop anyone that can.

i am not sure if Pfizer is done. Please read the Citigroup analysis about this. They believe this action makes it even more attractive and likely for Pfizer to send a new offer by Nov 26th, as AZ share prices will go down as a result of treasury announcement.

Don't you think that the share prices would just go right back up if Pfizer actuaaly made a new offer?

The point is that there is less value in buying AZ today for Pfizer than there was yesterday, that is why the shares went down. There is a takeover premium already built into the AZ stock price. Some of that premium is beginning to ebb away as a takeover looks more unlikely. Prior to the Pfizer takeover rumors the previous "fair value" for AZ was only around $50 per share, not $75.

Agree that AZ stock would once again climb with a Pfizer offer. However, with the opportunity for a tax inversion sinking by the day, would Pfizer even be willing to commit that much from their coffers?

Pfizer would probably have a lower offer forthcoming due to lower inherent value of the deal for them, so AZ would then be less likely to sell the company to them. The likely outcome of that situation is no deal, hence the takeover premium is beginning to go away.

nope. offer a couple of billion more and the deal will be done. Pascal and the ivory tower folks want a stock price around $94-95 to pull the trigger. It will happen.

Analysts are saying this won't deter Pfizer at all, and they are definitely coming back again. Read the article on CP Home Page.

This shows how ignorant this administration is. They're going to put measures in place that will hurt American corporations that are seeking ways to save millions for their share holders (their job) instead of considering lowering the tax rate.

Shouldn't surprise anyone...same administration that wants gun control to idealistically lower crime. "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." Higher tax WOULD bring in more revenue IF everything stayed the same, but everything does not stay the same. Countries with the highest tax rates shift MORE jobs away from their base & invest LESS in the base country, that is assuming they don't pull up stakes & move to another country with lower tax rates.

This is such an elementary economic argument. Why is it that Texas attracts more business than any other state? Hint: it's not the 110 degree heat. Why do states with lower corporate tax rates collect more tax revenue than those with higher tax rates?
